POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

There seems to be a plethora of "I saw/found this on ebay" posts coming thru these days. I thought perhaps we could condense them onto one thread and just pile it on. Might work, might not.............. I suppose if it does we could do an "I saw this on youtube" as well I will start it out with Motor Rebuilds $7k Anyone heard of these guys or have comments about them. (I dont need them....today, Just saw it while doing a search) Post up the good deals, bad deals, and ugly deals..................

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Whew, this thread is tearing them up!!!! check this out... GT2 for under $75k. I dont normally price these, but I saw this and thought it seemed like it was price pretty low??? EBAY LINK

POST 3Original post

This car howere is nothing I am interested in BUT check out this interiro color........ might want to look before lunch so you dont loose you lunch...... Link to Auction and photos

POST 10Original post

The red is not so bad. Close your eyes and picture the Nephrite Green interior in this car, then the Boxster Red looks absolutely gorgeous. I did notice that one of the tires is mismatched to the other two shown.

POST 11Original post

Speaking of Red interiors, here is an '08 C2S in Carrara White with Carrera Red Leather interior with deviating black carpet. '08 C2S Carrara White with Carrera Red Leather

POST 12Original post

Baltic Blue with Sand Beige Full Leather 2006 C2 Baltic Blue Sand Beige

POST 13Original post

I liked the White/Red combo. Sometime ago I also saw (on the 996 board) a Meridian Silver/Red combo ... very nice looking IMO.

POST 14Original post

Tim, You think you could photoshop a good combo nephrite green/boxster red interior? I'd like to see what that would look like.

POST 15Original post

The question is......... WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO SEE THAT???? Are you looking for a Christmas Porsche??? Next you will want an Easter Porsche in pastel pink, blue, and yellow! I'll see what I do with photo shop. It may be a while.

POST 16Original post

damn.... there are a sea of Porsche out there!...

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6201515

I really like this one, they brought back some graphite lines to the insides and not a sea of mustard thing like the MKII 996's - that's a nice looking ride IMO

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 6201515

That's really a beautiful combo - the Baltic is incredible looking. Needs better wheels, but the blue over tan is gorgeous.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

LINKY LINKY 02' Aero - low miles - $33K Not much of a description or pics, but isn't that a fairly good deal on a farily hard to find car?

POST 20Original post

Me thinks that's not a factory Aero. Mk I skirts and a non MK II GT3 wing (that's a carrera wing) on the MK II. Nice color combo though.

Do you really think so???? D'oh! I wonder if I can cancel my bid?

POST 25Original post

WOW could not believe someone could waste so much money and do such things to a nice CLK. The crazy part is that 23 people bid on it...

POST 26Original post

That CLK is horrible - it's as bad as some of the plastic surgery that actresses use nowadays. Here's an equally disturbing modification/example - just tragic:

POST 27Original post

OMG! I thought that was the silliest car I have ever seen, until I saw the neon lights - now I know it is. It's like watching a train wreck, horrifying, but you can't stop looking at it...

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OMG!!! I didnt see the neon, must have added it after I looked Where is that "throwing up" smiley !! I really always wanted a TV for my arm pit too... nice touch I think a reality TV show where they drive it off the end of a ferry in deep water and see how long you can still see it before it disapears into the abis would be a great place for this "ride"

POST 29Original post

Quotes source post: 6217572

LOL. That CLK is really ugly.

Nice move Ed! Did you write the book titled Diplomacy: How to turn Friends into Enemies with one simple comment! ? Of course I shouldn't talk. I just blasted the 997 "Cherry/Chocolate" combo, but at least I didn't do it on the 997 Forum, where I could run the risk that someone had a car with that combo.

POST 66 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I need bigger shoes and a smaller mouth, sorry about that, wierd thing is I have seen that color in person now - not nearly as bad as I thought, sorry for my earlier comment, didn't mean to offend

POST 67Original post

Quotes source post: 6508278

Is that the same car as the ebay link Ed posted... looks the same.

POST 68 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

no, they are not, Torontoworker's is WAY cleaner and WAY nicer !!

POST 69Original post

I think torontoworker's car looks just fine...it looks nothing like the brown and red combo in the 997 that Tim posted, which I agree looks like ***. Of course, I've never understand some people's infatuation with making the inside of their car look like the outside of their car. I have no desire for a shiny painted-metal look on the interior. Give me some more leather...

POST 70Original post

I can only say that *I * didn't order this color combo - just got the fruits of someone elses vehicle depreciation. Having said that... the car did spend most of it's life in Vegas, so is the 'bordello red', (my term) really a stretch?

This isn't on e-bay, but on a Porsche dealer web site. 2002 C2 with 45 miles I just can't understand why this car hasn't sold yet!

POST 75 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

that has to be a typo ? ? ? I would sell mine for 1/3 that price

POST 76Original post

I think someone at the dealer forgot that he drove it home once. That is pretty close to invoice?

POST 77 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

LINK to Cup Holder I have never seen this cup holder before. Then yesterday at C&C I saw one. I know some folks ask about options for the stock worthless cup holders, well here is one..... comes from Porsche (so they say)

POST 78Original post

^^^ its a small flimsy design.... only made for the mk1 model....

POST 79Original post

Quotes source post: 6555862

Yep I have those and they are marginal at best. they are removable in that they sort of clip into 3 small hole in the air vent. and the drivers side obstructs the ignition switch, but for long drives were your not getting in and out much they do all right. The ebay price on those is a bit funny though. I'd never pay that much for them.

POST 80 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

POST 83Original post

That one doesn't have heated seats or PSM. It does have sport seats. It's got stone guard on the front and door sills. The miles are a little over 28k now. I've test driven it 3 times.

POST 84 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

nice car, when are you going to bring it home? haha....LURKER

POST 85Original post

Hah. Yep, I'm lurking. I actually have an offer in on a C4S. Waiting to see if the deal pans out. Once I drove that wide body I was hooked.... still like that C2 but I figured the C4S would make more sense with the winters we get around here. Kinda still on the fence I suppose.

Possibly...hard to tell from those pictures. If it's actually a gt3 decklid my understanding is the air intake will be on the wrong side. The aero decklid for not gt3 cars has the inlet on the proper side.

POST 103Original post

Quotes source post: 6643208

Gee thanks Ivangene. I thought I had this one to myself. It's just on a local CL and he calls it a GT3 spoiler. The word wing isn't in the ad anywhere. I thought it might slip under the radar and I could get a good deal. Not anymore. I thought this was a found on ebay thread!!

POST 104 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is this a good deal? He is local for me, if you want local support I will offer myself to the cause Or did I read your reply wrong?

POST 105Original post

Quotes source post: 6644292

I'd sent him some questions this morning about it. It's unclear what he has, GT3 or Aero? OEM or aftermarket? Condition? Wiring harness included? If he didn't get much interest I would have tried a low offer probably. That may be an OK price on it though. If it goes anywhere I may take you up on your offer. I'll let you know, and thanks!

POST 106 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

POST 202 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

cool, that is a great deal !! I have a comment on Pac's ebay price gouging shipping charges (since I know a thing or two about it) while it is true some sellers on any board charge extra to ship items and you can end up paying more then xpected....keep in mind that shipping rate have sky rocketed over the last few years. I recently shipped a youth bike to Texas and not long ago I could have shipped it for about $50... the cheapest quote I got was $107 (mind you this is under 30 pounds but a little big - not huge) well I quoted the guy $80 off the cuff to cover my time and account for possible overrun, get a box and do the leg work....yea, that was smart!!! so unles you have shipped something... and I dont mean in 1973... I mean lately, dont yell at the person, ask for size and weight and his/her "from" zip code, then go out and get a quote so you can see for yourself what the real cost is! BTW the guy on the bike was nice and offered to cover the extra cost, I declinded as that is how I operate, he donated $30 to Dr's without borders - karma baby....its a good thing!

POST 236Original post

OK, there are some incredible deals on parts etc. that you will find on eBay, but you have to be careful and know what you are buying. I will give a some examples and a bad example. About 4-5 years ago I got a brand new, in the Porsche box dual mass flywheel for my 996 for $67. We all know that they usually for $700+, list for over $900. I bought it on a whim and stuck it under my desk. 2 years later it was time for a clutch and also needed a flywheel. It has been in the car since them. Now that was an incredible deal. This summer I got a brand new, OEM in the Porsche box MAF for egas for $69. It is also in the car. Also found a cam advance mech for a 3.4, brand new, for 1-3 side that I got for $100. They seller actually had both sides but I only got the one side as I entered cents rather than dollars at the last minute bid on that one. Sitting in my storage waiting to be needed. Bad Example, I bought a MKI aero bumper that was advertised as "mint" in my color (Ocean Blue). Turned out to be repainted with cracks, etc. in the paint (not in the bumper itself). But then again I only paid $600, so repainting it would bring it up to about what many of the primed bumpers go for. Put it on the car but still have not had it painted, one of these days I will. That is just a few of the items I have gotten on eBay, the list could go on for a page or two, but there really are some bargains to be found if you know the cars and keep an eye out. I basically do a search for newly listed 996 and 997 stuff everyday. It drives my wife crazy!

POST 237 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hey Doug... hint: if you save the search you can receive emails from fleabay whenever an item matching your search comes up newly listed... saves you time sorting thru the gobs of HID kits and aftermarket crap

POST 530 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

pretty sure the "wired" versions are for 997's WITH the sport suspension button... do 996's have a "sport suspension" (electronic dampening control) available or can it be added... it doens sound pretty cheap - dont forgot align and corner balance $, sway bar $ drop link $ and then you are set to chew up tires much faster!

POST 531Original post

Quotes source post: 8623206

I hate all those damn dollar signs..... Out of curiosity, why would you chew up tires any faster? With an alignment without the camber in the back end I would think I'd get longer life out of tires..... I've started to notice some less than ideal body roll so I'm examining options. I want to maintain my drivability, and I'm less concerned with lowering than I am with just improving the handling. I currently don't plan on getting into racing other than maybe a track day a year at most. Ideas?

POST 532 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Chew up tires because the car can go faster around the corners

The seller was kind enough to send me a TSB about the tires. According to the document, you need to modify the fender lip on 996's up to MY2001 to handle the 11J x 18 wheels. So if anyone else can use them, they're a great deal at $700 (with Pirelli Winter tires). Local pickup only (Westchester, NY)

Actually that's an OK price - I used to sell them - they are nice models - really good detail and proportions for such a small model. Though I agree - it's small! The problem with these little guys is that they don't make all models all the time so if something is out of production ... it goes up in price. Unlike the real cars.

Just got back from driving 90 miles to pickup my E-bay "score" Advertised as 2002 Boxster 3.2 heads off a totaled Boxster with 16,000 miles. I noticed he also was selling a pair of 5-speed trans mounts which are different from 6-speed mounts standard with 3.2 engines. I quized him on this thru E-bay messaging & he avoided the question the 1st time then later said it had a 6-speed & he had sold it that morning. Drove out to pickup heads from "2008hdstreetglide", AKA William Ulrich Jr., but calls himself Harold on the phone, living in a RV park by the LA County/Pomona Fairgrounds. Sure enough they are small valve heads that have been bead blasted to conceal actual mileage. I said he sold the shortblock so I assume someone is in for a shock when they discover what they bought. http://www.ebay.com/itm/110757701488...S:1123&vxp=mtr

Porsche 996 Carrera GT3 MA SHAW FENDERS CARBON FIBER 220890167936 I PM'ed the seller and he says that he had Shaw custom build them for him, and he needs to sell them because he is running out of space. Right... Might even be a good price for fiberglass, but the shipping is an additional 150 and we don't know who actually built them.

POST 685Original post

I found a set of 4 18" Sports design wheels with Toyo R888 tires. Picking them up tomorrow. Description: Wheels and Tires for 996. OEM 18" 2-piece sport wheels came as optional equipment on 2000 Carrera 2. The fronts are 18x8 and the rears are 18x11. The front wheels are in excellent shape, the rears have a little road rash on the rims. Silver centers, polished aluminum rims. Markings on the inside of the center section read: 996362. They have Toyo R888 tires. 225/40ZR18; 265/35ZR18. Fronts have only one track day on them and are not even close to the wear bars. The rears are at the wear bars, but show no cording. Excellent grip, no flat spots, well balanced. ---------------------------- Anyone with experience with these?

POST 690Original post

Sounds like the guy's being pretty upfront about what he's doing & seems hard to lose on this deal. I spent 3 hours this week pricing clutch kits for my son's 951, and best I could do was Zim's $520 aftermarket kit. So this seems like it's worth taking a $40 flyer on.

lets see 6 owners, 1 accident and overheating, hmmmmm Its being sold by a dealer. So think, why hasn't he fixed this simple little overheating problem and raised the profit margin. It sounds like it could be a nice project car, but I would not go into it without someone talking a good look at it. As a car to buy to start driving, I think not

POST 697Original post

Quotes source post: 9109942

No; the description in the ebay ads state fitment for 996 C4S, and Turbos; i.e. widebody Pcars. The rear offsets are too "low", so to speak. for a 19 X 11 rear et should be 58 ( I prefer 60mm) or a "higher" number. also if you go with an aggressive negative camber, you can pry do a 55 offset. Tires for your C2 cab; you can go with 235/35/19 and 295/30/19; another option for a bit more sidewall 245/35 and 305/30.

POST 698Original post

Quotes source post: 9111745

Agree. I'm in the market, but for a Mk 2 996. I just thought it was interesting that a dealer would disclose an overheating problem and put such a low "Buy It Now" price on it. If it were an easy fix, he would've fixed it, so must either be 1) difficult to diagnose; or 2) easy to diagnose but expensive to fix (and the dealer is sandbagging). It looks like it's drawing plenty of interest based on the number of bids. The Autocheck report says the accident was to the right front of the car and it occurred in 2006, so likely not a factor in the overheating. Might be a good deal for a P-car mechanic who knows what's wrong with it or is willing to take a chance.

i've followed that 996 CL ad for 2.5 weeks - 2 weeks ago he described the car as running rough and needing coils or spark plugs - now the ad says "replaced coils and plugs and the car won't start - all of a sudden it died at a stop light" my first question is who at porsche ever thought a champagne or green porsche was a good idea? secondly, i would have to guess this cars engine is toast. sounds like intermix had it running rough and final blow was total shutdown of engine.

POST 769Original post

Yeah, but no IMS worries! Seriously, how does a car that special, with only 4,000 miles, get treated like that? Even in 1971, that car had to have been worth enough $$ and unique enough that someone should have at least pushed it into a corner of a warehouse somewhere. To be left sitting outside for something like 42 years? Gator, how's about a paint correction thread based on this one? Seriously, the new trend among museums and serious collectors is "preservation" instead of restoration. I wonder what a thorough cleaning of the paint would reveal? Have you ever worked on a car like this to see what could be done with the original paint?

POST 770Original post

Yikes! What a shame. There is no correcting that paint. It's bubbling in places and missing in others. If that had been sitting inside then definitely salvageable. Single stage paint is pretty fun to work on. The trick is to feed the oils back into before polishing it. For that car, I would opt for a full rotisserie restoration. Some camps say that unmolested barn finds are best but that one is way nasty.

POST 771Original post
