Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'non-issue anyway' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'non-issue anyway' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check boxes' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

no my car, but this dude converted his 996 to electric with decent documentation of the project
http://kurtsprojects.blogspot.com
doesn't seem to come easy though..
Very cool project, but DIY electric cars are definitely not for the faint hearted. Quite expensive for the essential parts as well. Every time I consider possibly building my own EV, it makes the Tesla look even more interesting...
Tesla's base $71K price isn't cheap, but after the $15K tax credit, guaranteed 50% residual value (36 months), and full warranty, it looks pretty good against a self-conversion that has pretty much zero residual value.
0-60 performance better than most Panamera's as well! 4.2 seconds for the performance model? For comparison, Panamera 6.0: S about 5.1, 4S about 4.8, and turbo about 3.7...
This was my favorite post: "I drove my car to the monthly Minnesota Electric Auto Association meeting last night...After the meeting, on the way home, I got about half way and [ran out of battery charge]." Sucks to drive to the electric car club then run out of charge and have to get towed back.
Really cool project but it sounds like he kept the tiptronic transmission which was giving him some trouble. If it were possible it would be nice to just have the motor drive the wheels directly and do away with a transmission entirely.
I've driven the Tesla sports car (not driven the S yet) and I can tell you the car rocks.
Acceleration is instantaneous and it does it in a stealthy way - which is not a bad thing on the street as it does not draw too much attention.
Tesla also did the right thing with the range of the car.
A 996 conversion is never going to be range economical, unfortunately.
Really? I wasn't just blown away by the Roadster. It is GREAT for what it is - i.e. an electric car that doesn't suck - but after driving one, I decided I would much rather have a used Elise and $60,000 in change.
Test drove the Tesla S today. It was impressive in it's level of refinement, hugely impressive in the power and handling department.
Base model with leather would be about $75K (
$60K
after tax credits in Colorado), though you can easily get the sticker price up to $105K-$115K by checking all the boxes...
I've got no interest in a $100,000 electric car, but at $60K, it definitely has me thinking... Somewhat front-loaded price as there is probably another $2,000/yr in fuel savings, making it's effective cost more like $52K if I keep it four years. Plus a guaranteed 50% of purchase price buyback after 36 months... And that's 50% of the pre-tax-credit price, making it effectively a 62% residual of post-credit price.
3 year ownership breaks down something like this...
+ $75K purchase price
+ $1.8K three year service costs ($600/yr)
- $14K first year tax credit (fed & Colorado)
- $6K three year fuel savings
- $37,500 guaranteed buyback
---------------------------------------
$ $19,300 effective cost for three years of ownership.
Of course all of this assuming that Tesla stays in business, etc...
Edit: don't forget to add in the limited shelf life of the batteries which could be between $10-15k or more depending on type and configuration if you plan on keeping it after the warranty period.
That's the whole point... With the new buyback option, you are backstopped on costs and depreciation. 3 years down the road, you are out for a guaranteed repurchase. No, you don't have to buy another Tesla.
Though the battery
gloom & doom
is probably a non-issue anyway. Tesla warranties the 80kwh batteries for eight years with unlimited miles, and eight years down the road battery technology and pricing will likely be a fraction of what it is today.
