Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It was then sent to RUF auto center in Dallas to get a RUF 550 package installed along with wheels.
Leading evidence: 'Install along' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'mod's suggest at track usage' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install along' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
The seller is going to attach a premium to the car for the mod's and likely the mod's suggest at track usage.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As some of you may know I have the Porsche fever and would like to trade up to a Turbo. found this one locally and I would like to get your thoughts on it. Also let me know if there are other options.

Looking at the specifications, I'd be looking for history of who did the work, what Ruf parts were used. details. Seems like many NON-ruf a parts like the engine tune, exhaust....etc
It's a nice looking Turbo, nice PCCB - but it appears there are just bits and pieces of RUF here and there - the ad is a bit misleading in terms of calling it RUF Turbo. But if you like it, PPI checks out - why not.
That's very interesting!
I appreciate all the input, my goal is to spend the money wisely less than 50K but want to make sure I get the right car, with good history and upgrades.
It is kind of odd that the last owners did not keep the car long as well as some of the upgrades may not be RUF.

To spend the money wisely to get the most car for the money avoid a modified car.
The seller is going to attach a premium to the car for the mod's and likely the mod's suggest at track usage. Or at least more aggressive usage. No one add mod's to liven up the grocery run for grandma.
Thus the car's condition comes in for more concern than is usual and the concern is enough already. Plus you have to wonder about the quality of the mod's and how well they integrate.
So search out a stock Turbo (base or S) and of course find a nice example, well taken care of.
Have yourself a good (15 mile) test ride then follow with a test drive over the same route.
Do a full used car inspection.
Then have a PPI done.
I would
SERIOUSLY
consider running this VIN past RUF before making any decisions. As an honest RUF R-Turbo, I have no idea what it's worth. And neither does anyone else as you will be setting the market. $55k does not seem outrageous given the cost of the mods, but a straight up '01 TT can be had for considerably less (mid $30s.) So how much is that RTurbo sticker worth?
This was the response from the dealer after requesting more info on the RUF package:
Dear Sir,
The vehicle originally started life as a Porsche Turbo. It was then sent to RUF auto center in Dallas to get a RUF 550 package installed along with wheels. The vehicle also has additional upgrades along with the RUF upgrades such as carbon ceramic clutch, ceramic brakes, etc… To answer your question, yes the car is a registered RUF vehicle with RUF auto centre in Dallas. If you have any questions at all regarding this unique vehicle, please let me know.
JMO of course but I wouldnt even consider a modded 996. Especially at such an absurd price. There are several unmolested TT's out there at bargain prices. Some are even X50's. You could get a GT2 for a little more than they want for their RUF car.
You either need to expand your search area or increase the price of search vehicles. Wanting a nice Turbo in a rather small region in the mid $30s and finding one are two different things.
Probably because 996TTs in any condition you would want to buy are worth at least $40K+. A TT actually selling for mid-30s probably needs enough work that any savings you make are eaten up by repairs.
Based on the experience of several friends, 996TTs need a lot of love and replacement parts once they start getting some mileage on them. They are not simply faster Carreras, but full-on supercars with the level of complexity to match Lambos and Ferraris. Seems like catalytic converters are a particular weak point and throw all sorts of Codes that drive mechanics nuts. You really need a good tech that knows the turbo if you plan to own one that has any serious use in its past.
I have search bots setup for fun that inform me when certain things get listed on the web. As I've said before, the really good deal cars don't even last a whole day, some not even an hour from the time they're listed as Internet vultures swoop these up. The cheap price cars that last more than a day are still there for a reason usually(something wrong or not quite 100% so it's been passed up by the first few interested parties already).
Ads these days are not like newspapers of past and can often disappear as fast as they've been put up.
I've seen no less than a dozen '01-'02 TT models this year so far in the mid 30 range.
