To eliminate that possibility you'll have to have the car inspected/checked out someone qualified to make that determination.

Suggestion

Found out that the rubber on the tires had started to separate (they were old tires) landed up that the tires were no longer "round" when trying to balance them they would oscillate up and down- replaced both tires and problem disappeared.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm getting bit of a high speed shimmy type wobble. I had the fronts rebalanced but I get this wobble at around 85 90 100 mph areas. It's like a slight shimmy, nothing drastic but noticeable. I also notice it on hard acceleration. Any ideas? Everything stock, recently things I've replaced were tuning fork arms, tie rod ends and drop links. Tyres are Pzero with good tread.

Just the usual: tire pressure; alignment; or there's a steering or suspension component that needs replacing that got overlooked when you had the other items done. Are you running wheel spacers?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Full OEM car. Would inner tie rods cause any issues with wobble? Anything along the coffin arms cause a wobble?

POST 4Original post

My guess would be tires. Even with good tread, you can experience issues. My winter tires have excellent tread left after four seasons, but they are no longer usable because of vibration issues. Even with balancing, they vibrate. When I put my summer tires on a few months ago, the vibration problem disappeared.

Well, to state the obvious any steering or suspension bushing/bearing with any extra play can result in what you experience. To eliminate that possibility you'll have to have the car inspected/checked out someone qualified to make that determination. But there are other causes too which I covered. Before you take the car in at least check the tire pressures using an accurate tire pressure gage. For alignment there's not much you can do other than to look at and feel the tires to see if or feel if there is any wear that is a sign of alignment. Feathering is one such sign. If the car has not had an alignment in a while (thousands of miles -- assuming it had a good one at some point in the past -- or not since a set or two of tires ago) you could have this done. But ask the tech to check out the steering/suspension before hand to eliminate any worn or damaged or broken parts as the cause. The alignment should be not expected to compensate for any of that.

POST 6Original post

I'd take it in for a road-force balance - this is just the kind of thing that won't show up on a spin balancer. I had a similar issue with a new tire on my Boxster - felt great except when between 85-90 MPH. Ultimately the shop had to replace one of the fronts - the issue could not be adequately corrected with weights.

POST 7Original post

Perhaps this is not the issue, but it did happen to me. I had my wheels balanced yet still landed up with a wobble at high speed. Found out that the rubber on the tires had started to separate (they were old tires) landed up that the tires were no longer "round" when trying to balance them they would oscillate up and down- replaced both tires and problem disappeared.

POST 8Original post

I had a similar experience as FL-03 before getting new tires. My tires were 5-6 years old and at highway speeds+ I would experience a "shimmy" from the rears.

Pirelli? (har har)

POST 12Original post

Similar problem. All wheel road force balance twice on new rears and like new fronts, also all wheel high tech alignment twice. Still had shimmy. In the end, tech told me a rear rim was slightly bent...unbalance shows up at 70 mph and above, also said fronts were heat cycled, and would never balance out. Front tires only have 10,000 miles on them. Very disappointing.
