Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

As for the caliper bolts changing from hex to Torx - that stung me once as well.
Leading evidence: 'Replace from hex' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). My 986S does the same thing; I use it to my advantage when changing tires; jack once at the rear jack point, and I can change both wheels on that side.

Whenever I'm changing wheels/tires at the track I always just use the rear jackpoint to do one whole side of the car.

The new caliper bolts use a T-55 drive rather than the 10 mm allen wrench that the originals used.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Doing the brakes on my car, I started with the right front. I jacked the car at the right rear jacking point and placed a jack stand under the right front. I lowered the car onto the jack stand. The new caliper bolts use a T-55 drive rather than the 10 mm allen wrench that the originals used. I didn't have a T-55 socket so I had to make a trip to the hardware store. I got into my other car and as I was about to back out, I noticed that left front tire of my 996 was about six inches off the ground. Does this make sense?
Yes, I cring every time I see it and I don't let the car sit like that very long. May not be anything wrong with it sitting like that, but I don't like it.
As for the caliper bolts changing from hex to Torx - that stung me once as well. I went from "awww yea, got everything I need *smug*" to "damn it!" in about five seconds...
yeh the 911 has a stiff chassis as you say

I was really surprised when I saw the whole of one side of my car leave the floor as I was jacking from the rear jacking point.
As long as the door still opens and closes I wouldn't worry about it! Whenever I'm changing wheels/tires at the track I always just use the rear jackpoint to do one whole side of the car.
I had never done brakes before on any car so I watched Van's excellent video many times. I made sure I had everything on hand. I bought everything OEM including new pads, rotors, springs, clips, bolts, dampers, etc. I even bought the Harbor Freight Impact wrench and the same pair of gloves as shown in the video. I don't know how I missed the Hex to Torx thing.
Anyway, I did the fronts and everything seems good. I plan on doing the rears tomorrow.
My 986S does the same thing; I use it to my advantage when changing tires; jack once at the rear jack point, and I can change both wheels on that side. You can use it to get a jack-stand under the other jack point on that side, too.
Fun parlor trick: if I've got a jack-stand on a front jack point, I can easily grab the opposite front fender and pick up the car the car with one hand, since the fulcrum passes pretty much right through the CG. Amazing something that weighs ~3000lbs can be handled so easily. Can you do this on a 996, too? Lift up the rear pretty easy if you're supported from the front?
No, I mean the 986 is balanced pretty evenly on the diagonal between a rear wheel and the opposite front jack point, with slight weight resting on the other front wheel. I'd expect a 996 to have similar balance, but with slight weight resting on the other rear wheel as the CG is a little further aft.
