Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause
once I met some friends for dinner at a restaurant that turned out to be valet only.
Leading evidence: 'valet only' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'valet only' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check trans oil' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

While in there, I'm having the IMS replaced with an LNE.

However, if you have been taking care of the car chances are good that nothing else needs doing, unless for instance plugs are due to be done or the brake fluid/clutch fluid is due to be flushed/bled, then of course have that done at this time.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

...I valet'd my car a few days ago at an Eagles concert, thinking I was clever and would beat the crowds out. As it turned out, the guy bringing my car up from the garage did not know how to drive a manual. After hearing it stall twice coming up the ramp (fabspeed exhaust is pretty noticeable), he pulled up with smoke POURING out from underneath the car. The bad: clutch is toast. The good: the parking company admitted fault and their insurance is taking care of the replacement.
While in there, I'm having the IMS replaced with an LNE. Is there anything else I should take care of?
Is there anything else that could be related to cooking the clutch that I should claim?
Thanks!
Mark
Get AOS done as well, good preventive maintenance and only $120 once the trans is out.
Make sure the pilot bearing gets replaced. And if you're doing IMS I am assuming you're doing RMS as well
bummer, but good to hear the valet company is stepping up. agree with the above, anything that needs to be done while engine/trans are out of the car should be done now.
nobody can drive a manual anymore. makes valeting a car even more nerve-wracking. once I met some friends for dinner at a restaurant that turned out to be valet only. handed the valet the keys to my car (manual trans 996) and went in the restaurant. my car sat at the drop-off area for a long time. when I picked it back up, written on the key tag in big letters with a sharpie was "STICK". the car sat there so long because only one of their valets could drive a stick, and he was busy. sheesh.
Be sure to set aside some money to hire someone to kick you in the you know where the next time the idea of valet parking the car even crosses your mind.
Clutch. FW. Pressure plate. Release bearing. Be sure the techs check out the other clutch related hardware (linkage) for any wear/tear that while probably not from the abuse of the valet parking employee should be taken care of.
In fact while this should be obvious ask the to tech while he is up close and personal with the car to advise you of anything that needs attention. CV boots, etc.
However, if you have been taking care of the car chances are good that nothing else needs doing, unless for instance plugs are due to be done or the brake fluid/clutch fluid is due to be flushed/bled, then of course have that done at this time.
But would I do a lot of (make that any) preventative replacement of parts? No. (Case in point: My Turbo was in for a RMS. 110K miles. Original clutch. The only thing the tech found that needed replacing was two needle bearings that fit on the clutch lever arm pivot shaft. The disc and pressure plate and FW were just fine. How fine? The clutch disc wear (I measured this) was nil. The tech reported the other items looked just fine, the best he's ever seen come of a used car.)
Well stated Macster. To the OP, sorry for this, very annoying I know. If you'd like to read about a few common issues with the 996 engine take a look
here
. This is just informative, you certainly don't need to address many of these. It covers such topics as:
-IMS bearing
-Rear Main Seal
-Chain Tensioner Issues
-Air-Oil-Separator
-Install of Low Temp Thermostat (by LN Engineering)
Keep us up to date on the outcome - glad it will be covered!

The valet employee doesn't qualify for the job that's for sure. Fail I.
And neither does his manager. The one requirement for a manager of valet parking lot attendants is to make sure they can drive a manual. Fail II.
