Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that contain suggestions
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
The OP really needs to check the engine compartment.
Leading evidence: 'Check engine compartment' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check engine compartment' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Purchased a 1999 996 a couple of month ago and have been dealing with dead mice
So far I've remove 14 from the trunk. then about 8 from the headliner. Still had a mild odor and after pulling the strut tower pad found about three pound of dog food and about 10 more critters. Any other favorite hiding places??? The bastards also ate the foam sound suppressors under the rear side panels.
I've name my car Minnie.
The remaining odor can be from the urine they leave about.
As for hiding places they can end up almost anywhere. In the heater or AC air passages, in the dash, in the areas between the cabin and engine compartment, on top of the engine.
Also, check the upper surfaces of the underbody plastic panels. These catch a lot of nest litter and could have accumulated dead mice as well.
Yup. The mice/rats visit Fido's bowl that's sitting outside and take it back to its nest, which in this case, is a Porsche. The OP really needs to check the engine compartment. I bet there are some issues there as well. Look for chewed wiring, insulation, belts, connectors, etc.
I hope you get the smell out. Not much worse than the smell of a dead rat. Good luck.
Interesting. Can't you just stick it in your garage, and bomb it? (assuming there are rat bombs like there are roach, etc.) Kill them first, and then work on finding the corpses and getting the smell out second. I think you have to make sure more aren't flocking to your car as you are pulling out their deceased cousins.
Use this... Very inexpensive and it works. I used this on my wife's CL55 and no more mice. No relation to this product or company, just a happy customer:
