Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

When the dealer swapped motors in my 2004 for a Porsche crate motor a few months ago they had an issue with the DME properly reading the new motor and an issue with a different location of the oil pressure sending unit.

Suggestion

Do you mean like a 2000 into 1999 (3.4 replacing 3.4, just different year) or a 2004 into a 2000 (3.6 replacing 3.4) for example?

for anyone who's swapped non stock motors into a 996 (from a different model year, not a different type of car!) what kind of issues did you run into?

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

for anyone who's swapped non stock motors into a 996 (from a different model year, not a different type of car!) what kind of issues did you run into? Vacuum issues? Connector/sensor issues?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oh, it sold. But part of the deal was I'd be putting the motor in.

POST 4Original post

No experience but IIRC Pelican Parts has something on engine swaps at its web site.

POST 5Original post

Do you mean like a 2000 into 1999 (3.4 replacing 3.4, just different year) or a 2004 into a 2000 (3.6 replacing 3.4) for example? Not sure what year your car is but if it is pre E-gas that may present more of an issue. Or do you mean a Turbo or GT3 engine into a standard 996? I don't have any experience but your questions seemed a bit vague to me.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

More like 997 into 996 type of thing.

POST 7Original post

When the dealer swapped motors in my 2004 for a Porsche crate motor a few months ago they had an issue with the DME properly reading the new motor and an issue with a different location of the oil pressure sending unit. Not sure if the crate motor equates to a 997.1 motor though.

Interesting. This motor was almost 100% plug and play actually. The 997 harness plugged right into everything. Cooling lines and vacuum lines where the problem.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
