Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

From that I deduce that some of the internals need to be replaced but I am loathe to be ripped off at a dealer so I am resigned to the situation.

I have already swapped both fobs with the GT3 ones and the issue remains.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, I know there are a bunch of threads with keyless not working, but mine isn't typical. When I press the button, I can see the light flashing on the dash, so there is communication between the key and the car, but it no longer unlocks, locks or opens the trunk. This just came out of no where, worked fine then one day stopped working all together. Thanks!

POST 3Original post

let me expand: when a trigger is left open on the 996 the locking function will not work and the car will alert you with two short beeps from the alarm horn.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If i lock the car with my key and the door is open, i get beeps from the alarm horn.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In that case my apologies, I wasn't able to find one that had similar symptoms. I had to manually go through the pages because for some reason the search function isn't working, any search brings up 0 results.

POST 8Original post

Frank.......just ordered some switches. Hope it works! Thanks for the post.

POST 9Original post

Pete, Hope it works for you. When one of mine failed it was like OPs, the remote and car were winking and blinking but no consummation, just flirtation. Switches and trace re-soldering didn't do it, so I had to let the dealer burn some of my Benjamins while they danced around the car chanting, or what ever it is that they do.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for the links! after testing it again last night, it no longer even flirts

POST 11Original post

It's a bit weird that no one has found a solution to this vexing problem. I have had the same for a while and beside buying a bunch of batteries ( cheap) after replacement, it only take about 10 days b4 the keyless feature becomes erratic again: works sometime, sometime not, sometime the frunk button works and unlocks the car. Closing it is manual. From that I deduce that some of the internals need to be replaced but I am loathe to be ripped off at a dealer so I am resigned to the situation. Incidentally, both keys malfunction. I have already swapped both fobs with the GT3 ones and the issue remains.

POST 12Original post

I've had the same type situations happen and finally just bit the bullet and got a new keyhead.

POST 13Original post

I have the same situation, dealer tells me my 13 year old key needs new internals. When I bought the 2000 C2 in 2011, I had to purchase an additional key so I would have 2 working ones. The original now does not operate remotely. $300+ for new key fob, the old head was ok, just replaced the fob, programmign and new fob $300+ from stealer....
