Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

That would explain the one that is "exposing the odd looking bolt" - probably a wheel lock.

It's not urgent, the tyres are fine and (touch wood) I've so far avoided the 405's remarkable collection of nails, but it would be a nice thing to know before I do have to change a wheel.
Leading evidence: 'wheel lock' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'wheel lock' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace wheel' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It's probably a very silly question, and certainly I should have thought about this before, but how do I take these wheel "nuts" off (and therefore how do I take the wheel off) They're on 18" "High gloss turbo look" wheels on my '02 C2, and the standard toolkit's wrench is definitely not doing anything with them. The clearance between the "nut" and the hole in the wheel is too small for a socket, too. The "nut" seems to be made of plastic, and on three out of four wheels, one of them has made a bid for freedom exposing a very odd looking bolt.

Those look like plastic "chrome" bolt covers to me. That would explain the one that is "exposing the odd looking bolt" - probably a wheel lock. Try prying the cover off of one and see if your factory wrench will work.
I'll give that a go. I'm feeling pretty silly for only realising after 3000 miles and more than a month that I don't know how I'd change a wheel! Oops...
Yup, those are snap on covers. You can carefully take a needlenose pliers and pull them off. Then you will be able to see the lug bolt. A standard 19mm will get them off after you get the covers off.
I have seen those simulate chrome caps for sale on eBay a few times. When you buy them they should come with a plastic tool for removing them so as not to damage them. Try finding one of those auctions and then contact the seller about purchasing a tool.
HMMMM.....how long have you had the car? Did you buy it pre-owned? If so, you need to contact the dealer or individual that you purchased form and get that tool (locking lug key).
I have those covers on my wheels, much less expensive than the full chrome bolts. LvDell is correct they came with a tool to remove them but I am guessing if you get some pliers that open wide and put some tape around each end they will pull out. The stay on with a little suction so you will have to give them a tug.
good luck
About 6 weeks/3000 miles now, and it's a CPO so I should be able to organise a new key. It only occurred to me the other day that I hadn't properly checked the toolkit and jack as I would usually do - I think I was a little overexcited when I picked up the car!
