Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gang, removed the child seat air bag disabling device out of my buddies Y2K 996 cab and the air bag light has been on since. It goes out as soon as the thing is plugged back in. Is there another attachment that should be used? or will disconnecting the battery do the trick? Any ideas? Or does it just need to go to the dealer. Thanks,

POST 2Original post

From what I understand, when the airbag disabling system for the child seat is installed, the SRS computer has to be programmed to "see" the disable switch. Therefore, it seems logical that if it doesn't "see" it without being reprogrammed back...it would turn the warning light on....

POST 3Original post

I just realized I didn't answer your question. It probably has to go to the dealer so they can reprogram the SRS computer.

POST 4Original post

Jim is correct. If you remove the child seat then your dealer must use a Porsche PST2 tester to reset the control. From the installation TSB: If the cross bar with seat belt buckle is no longer desired and is removed, the air bag control unit must be re-coded to "Child Seat Occupancy" "Not Active" status with the PST2 tester.
