Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Have any of you had experience with this product? I talked to my paint shop and they said paint would not stick to that material or atleast for any long period of time. They also said that the paint will not match properly without having the car. Are these bumperettes durable and will not start chiping in a few months?

POST 2Original post

I've had mine for two years and they look like they did when I got them. I think the BumperPlug folks use the same "flexible" paint on Bumper Plugs that Porsche uses on the flexible bumpers. Eric? Further explaination?

Thanks for the plug, guys. Yes, you could apply automotive paint to the rubber bumperettes, and it would probably last 15 minutes. If you are not trained and skilled at this sort of thing (I'm not the paint guy, but he works for me), then it would fail every time. However, with the correct preparation of the base material, the proper application of chemicals and various treatments to the rubber or plastic before it is ever painted, and the meticulous effort of an experienced Porsche body/paint expert, these things come out perfect every time. As for having the car present, that only really applies if you are painting body panels. You would not want to ship off a fender to be painted without the car present, as the chemistry lends itself to slight changes in tone, though barely noticeable to the naked, untrained eye. For add-ons like bumperettes and mirrors, however, you can easily have them painted off the car remotely and expect a very close, if not perfect match. For those interested in painted bumperettes, please email me directly for more information. Thanks.
