This year I installed a DAS-Sport roll bar which I'm very happy with.

I used a harness bar for one year before I decided I really didn't like being belted in very rigid and upright with no rollover protection.

I autocross my car but don't plan to otherwise track the car, although that could change I suppose.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

bar installed in their 996 coupe? I'm looking at the Model R-1030. I'd be interested in any comments or photos, particularly close ups of the mounting locations. I'd also like to know where people bought theirs and whether they are available at a discount anywhere. Thanks in advance.
Mike,
A couple of FWIW comments. I used a harness bar for one year before I decided I really didn't like being belted in very rigid and upright with no rollover protection. This year I installed a DAS-Sport roll bar which I'm very happy with. Unless you intend to remove the harness bar between track days I would highly recommend going the next step to a roll bar. If you are set on a harness bar I know where you can get a very nice Speedware stainless steel bar only used one season for a very good price.

Jim,
I appreciate your insight. I autocross my car but don't plan to otherwise track the car, although that could change I suppose. I have GT3 seats and was thinking a harness would hold me in them better. I'd thought about a roll-over bar but figured it might be more than I needed.
For a car that's driven most of the time on the street and autocrossed, but not otherwise tracked, do you think a roll-over bar is still a good idea? As far as installation is concerned, I thought it might be more intrusive in the interior. I'd also read a post from someone who said not to expect the car to seem stock afterwards....that the bar creaked and was noisy. Is this true with yours? Thanks.
Mike,
I also remeber a post stating that the DAS-Sport bar squeaked. I haven't had that problem. Mine has been perfect. It does creat a couple of problems though. The top bar partially blocks your view through the rear view mirror. It also renders your back seat completely usless. For autocrossing I would stick with a harness bar. I think the BK bar is the class of the field but have a look at the one from Speedware. It is significantly less intrusive than the BK and is really well built. I was very happy with mine.

Jim
After being bounced around the cockpit at DE events,I installed a BK in my Cab but returned it to OGRacing within the week, after discovering my head could become a pivot point in the event of a rollover when strapped in tight, and no one could tell me wether the attached hardtop would provide any protection. I've been told my only real solution is a BK with cage. as I'm only a recreational DE driver I'm not ready to go that far. yet.... in my research I found no discounts for BK.
