If there are no issues like these then it would make sense to just change the bulbs especially if you drive mostly in the city with all the street lights versus out in the countryside with no lighting.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anybody have any experience upgrading their headlights with the xenon plasma bulbs versus buying the entire headlamp assembly through Porsche? I know the bulbs wouldn't have the lumen output of the complete assemblies but you'd have the "look". Could changing to the bulbs "fry" the electronics or would heat build up be the issue? If there are no issues like these then it would make sense to just change the bulbs especially if you drive mostly in the city with all the street lights versus out in the countryside with no lighting.

POST 2Original post

The reflectors are different as well as the lenses. You also need a high voltage igniter circuit (one for each light) and a relay to kick it in and out. Sorry but I think the only choice you have for Xenon is the Litronic upgrade.

POST 3Original post

As far as bulbs go, I've used both PIAA platinum series and Solaris bulbs. The Solaris bulb is the closest to the HID look, it is xenon gas filled and the temperature is 4300k which is the same as true HID systems (most of the bulbs on the market, including PIAA, are just bulbs with a blue tint, and the tint actually weakens the output). Solaris bulbs are noticably brighter and are an economic way to go as opposed to uprading to litronics. If you need more info drop me a line. (I'm not affiliated with them, I'm just a satisfied user)

POST 4Original post

Don't forget that with the factory HID assemblies you get bi-level HID. Auto-leveling servomotor moves HID bulb/reflector assembly upward into high beam position when HBs are on.
