Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

No, I do not have to clean my engine especially often...
Leading evidence: 'Clean engine especially often' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean engine especially often' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Instead, they were going to use discrete spurts, and wipe it down.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Yeaph guys,
Just when it rains all this water goes thru the rear spoiler from outside. So when all this water gets inside the rear spoiler..where it's evacuated? there are some kind of pipe or somenthing?,The engine is not wet over the top so...

Bilstein, funny you should ask. I was at my Porsche dealership's mechanics, talking with them since I was in the area (yes, I know it's sad that I hang out with the mechanics), and I saw a 2000 996 with it's engine open. The engine was very dusty, covered with dried mud or something (don't ask me how it got there -- the mechanic didn't know either).
I asked if they were going to hose it down, but he said no. Given the sensitive computers and chips inside the engine compartment these days, wildly spraying water within the engine compartment seriously risks damaging the technology. Instead, they were going to use discrete spurts, and wipe it down.
Back to your question. If you look at the backside of the airfoil, you will note it has a protective covering. Any water, rain, etc. channeled into the airfoil from the outside gets protected from the engine by this covering, and channeled to the side of the engine compartment. It runs down the side channels, and then out from the bottom. The engine remains absolutely dry, for the reasons mentioned above.
That's my understanding. Hope it helps.
Regards.

Ah!
Vik thanks, now i see the thing more logical!!!

hey 993RS ,
thanks for the pic!
this is very interesting...I though all the 911 where builded with the same
evacuation system
; As our friend Vik explained above.
so in your case, you clean often your engine!?

993RS,
I know i'm kinda late for this thread...but I was just thinking... After my father spilled some oil in his 993 (not realizing it), it started to leak all over the back as he was driving it...and he took it to the friendly local P-Car mechanic. He concluded that some oil was spilled, and sprayed the engine compartment with a hose to clean it out. The car still runs fine, and it did not seem to do any damage, so im guessing that it was ok (atleast for 993's).

Actually, I'm pretty sure that the 993 and 996's have different rear spoilers, with the 993 spoiler exposing the engine. My understanding is that the 996 has many more chips, computers, engine-control systems that are susceptible to water. The cover on the underside of the spoiler is very obvious, and I'm not sure why else they would put it. I actually think being able to see the engine through the spoiler (like 993RS showed) is kinda cool! I'm sure it generates a lot of heat though, huh, 993RS?
Regards.
