I may add the carbon consol as an aftermarket improvement in my car (though its a pricey cosmetic change).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After reading and viewing the "Oh God, what have I done" thread, I have decided to call Champion tomorrow and add the option rear painted console.
There are two choices:
XME Rear Painted Console in Exterior Color and
XJB Rear Painted Console in Silver.
BTW, I am getting the Aluminum Brake/Shifter.
Does anyone think the Silver Console might be cool in a Guards Red/Black car?
Personaly I would leave it alone just to keep it clean and simple. It may look a bit complicated. I was thinking of doing that but after seeing someone's post of a red console I opted to not do it at this time. I think red seatbelts would be a nce accent without making the center console such a focus-seatbelts are subtle but a nice accent otherwise. Regards. Mike
OK, you asked for opinions. If I may, let me give you a divergent opinion. If your heart is set on a painted console, DO NOT READ.
I like the darker interior, black preffered, because it gives me a cocooned feeling. It gives me the impression of closeness, of being wrapped, as if I was wearing the car like a glove. Anything too big, bright or shiny will detract from that feeling. One other reason I chose black is that the default color of anything not painted in the interior is usually black; the radio face, assorted ***** and switches, center console, thereby heightening the blending-in atmosphere. A painted console would feel intrusive to me. Not only that, if it were in the exterior color, it would seem bare, somehow. As if somebody forgot to put a piece of leather, or something got stripped off and now the bare metal is showing through. I almost went for the carbon fibre accents package since it was still so close to black, but I decided against it.
My 0.2 worth.

Personally I'd get the red console. I have seen a red 996 with red belts, red console, black leather and it looked great. And I'm not a huge fan of red cars. I think the red console will visually flow better when, viewing the car from outside, your eyes move from the red exterior to the interior.
I like Paulting's philosophy for the exterior. I wanted to create a look of all silver, thus the C4, (silver badge, calipers), AS exterior and the wheels also match. I did get the Met Blue interior but wanted a little color, thus the carbon fiber wheel, handle and ****, and the AS console. If I had it to do all over again, I would get have the same exterior effect with all silver, but would get black interior w/carbon fiber wheel, **** and handle...and the silver console. With the met blue there are really 3 colors inside with the black pieces. Should have talked with you before Paulting...
I do not find the painted console intrusive at all. I thinks its a nice touch that gives the interior its own personality when done in sync with red stitching and seatbelts.
I have had 4 996's and had it done on all my cars. If your car is Guards red I would reccomend going with the guards red console. Here is a pic of my 02 coupe that I sold.
u asked for opinions - personally think leave it alone - see lots of modded cars with multiculoured interiors and think its not so classy. plus it might make resale more difficult -just looking at these treads there are a number who think u should steer clear.
I've seen pics of that red Carrera before. That photo is THE reason that I would paint the inside ot match the outside. I think it gives it a terrific racy look without the boy-racer look. Definitely increases the drool coefficient for me.
Also, if I didn't have two young sons who are scrambling in and out of the back seats and scruffing the interior, then I would have considered painting my seat backs too.
ohsixx, for what it is worth I have seen a Boxster where I live with the red painted console and I thought it looked great. I would only go with the same color as the exterior.
The GR rear center console looks very sporty, as do the GR seatbacks. If you get tired of the GR you can have it painted Arctic Silver or get the carbon fiber console from Carnewal. If I had ordered my C4S, wihch is GR with GR belts, I would have ordered the GR console.
IMHO I would not get it at all. I think it looks kind of tacky and not very Porsche like. But that is me....to each there own. The painting does give a sporty look that some like, but it is not for me.
mmm - Duane's former car is enough to sell me. I think that is GREAT combination and does wonders for an otherwise boring interior. I have a full leather graphite leather interior on my '99 C4 (Iris blue exterior) - and though I have the carbon fiber shifter and handbrake, the interior is just too bland for my taste. In retrospect, I think adding either color (exterior color) or carbon fiber to the center counsol would make a big difference in the feel of the interior. I may add the carbon consol as an aftermarket improvement in my car (though its a pricey cosmetic change).
