Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

There is a great video of a 996 TT test drive by a British bloke.
Leading evidence: 'Test drive by a british bloke' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Test drive by a british bloke' (1 discussions). Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello to everyone! I just moved from the 933 board to the 996. Bought a 99 c2 6 speed. My 993 was a tip, and my question is what happens when you dump the clutch? I am alittle afraid to do so. Is it safe? Any rear wheel hopping? What im trying to say, is can the car take burnouts?
Tom
Welcome to the world of 996, and to the world of 6 speed as well!!!
I have a 2002 C4S 6 speed. Can't get the sucker to burn rubber. I've only tried a few times, though. Kept the rpm at @ 3000, dropped the clutch, then floored it as soon as the clutch is fully engaged. This thing gives me a little tire chirp, and just launches it self like a rocket! If you have some old baldie tires and a slightly wet road you might get burnout. Helps to have PSM off if you have it. Otherwise, rear weight and traction won't let you burn rubber. Porsche's are not dragsters, but the 996 will launch to 60 mph at less than 5 secs, unless all the specs are lying.
I don't dare do more than above. Heard somebody redlined a 996 cab through the first 3 gears while it was standing still!! Fried the clutch and flywheel!
There is a great video of a 996 TT test drive by a British bloke. He burns rubber at the end of the video and takes off from the parking lot. The C4S has the same clutch, but significantly less HP. I can post it for you if I can find it.
Don't do it! You'll get major major wheel hop. The tires are just grabbing too much for the torque in a standard 996. Your best best for wheel spin if that's what you want is to get the clutch hooked up at about 3K and then put it to the floor, but even then, you'll probably just get a fast launch w/ minimal wheel spin.
996's are not muscle car, drag racing machines. You want wheel spin, buy a Firebird or Mustang and save about $50K.
I, myself could not give you an answer to that but one person who's online name "JERU" at CFG's(WWW.FUNCARSONLINE.COM" has posted many times his victories and his launch technique. You may want to ask him. Regards. Mike
