Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I will need to import a sports exhaust and therefore trust your opinion on which sports exhaust is better, fabspeed or PSE. I have heard the fabspeed on their website but never heard the Porsche OEM. I would value your opinion.

POST 2Original post

Stuart - Check out the thread below. It has multiple sound clips of various exhaust systems. I would recommend that you try to hear them in person before deciding. Most here seem to prefer the oem PSE, FWIW. https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ighlight=clips

POST 3Original post

what the fabspeed clip does not show is the resonance in the car. i nick-named my 996 a 'cow'erra due to the distinct sound of mooing when the throttle was depressed at highway speeds After all the good fabspeed reviews I thought maybe i was the weird one, and that a sports exhaust was not for me. Someone convinced me to give PSE a try and it all worked out fantastic Its all down to personal taste, ad the fabspeed did sound very good at WOT, just not everything else

POST 4Original post

get GHL loud. no resonance, better performance and cheaper than PSE. why on earth would anyone pay $2k for a sound enhancement?

POST 5Original post

My fabspeeds have zero resonance and sound way better than PSE.

POST 6Original post

Trace to no resonance here either with Fabspeeds. If you're worried about a free flowing exhaust being "too loud" or having "resonance" just get the PSE, it sounds good and is a very safe choice, albeit an expensive one for what it is.

POST 7Original post

I had the Fabspeed and it resonated. I switched to the GHL. The sound is great and definately no resonance with the GHL. I was told that the Fabspeed muffler is no more than the Porsche design with less packing. I was curious so I opened the mufflers and compared. They sure seem similar. I guess the louder sound is because the smaller muffler and the packing is not really stainless so it burns away. There was a picture of the inside of their muffler on the Faspeed website but for some reason I don't see it now.

POST 8Original post

It's on the video if you watch their description of their mufflers. To my eye after watching it, the Porsche OEM muffler and the Fabspeed look NOTHING alike. You should check it out and decide for yourself.

POST 9Original post

Nothing beats listeing to them in person. I've tried to listed to the clips and compare, but its impossible to decide based on them. I went with the safe choice of PSE (mufflers only), and I do not regret it at all. Fantastic growling sound

POST 10Original post

The Ruf clips were added back, the links should work again. -Darren

POST 11Original post

Depending on what year car you have, you can turn you existing mufflers into a ful time PSE for about $150.

POST 12Original post

I just watched the video. The inside of the mufflers I got from Fabspeed were nothing like what is showed in the video. I did not have a complete bend from inlet to outlet. Mine had a plate 3/4 of the way down where to pipes connected leaving an empty space at the bottom of the muffler. I was surprised to hear Fabspeed speaking so badly of not only competitors but also Porsche. It is deplorable that a company will stoop to these levels for personal gain. It is not like B&B, GHL or Porsche are shoddy companies. I now find it difficult to believe any claims of power or anything else after hearing this.

POST 13Original post

What year do you need to have and what needs to be done?

POST 14Original post

Do you have any pics? I've only ever had great dealings with Joe. In fact, I was at his shop last yr picking up some bypass pipes, at the time I had GHL's on the car, he had nothing but good things to say about GHL, he's a class guy. Faris, all you need is some 5/8" tubing and rudimentary welding skills, simply make an opening in the inlet/outlet then weld the tube btwn, instant PSE.

POST 15Original post

i have had GHL, fabspeed and PSE. GHL was too tame, fabspeed has a good tone but does have resonance (i got used to it) but PSE is THE BEST PORSCHE sound... raspy with a bark and just sounds mean. PSE sounds how a porsche should sound but the fabspeed kinda tries to make it sound deeper. PSE is heavier than GHL or fabspeed. if i had to do it all over again, i would have stuck with PSE. anyone with 3.6L oem mufflers just laying around want to give 'em to me

POST 19Original post

GHL is really really great for the money....i have it and just installed it and enjoy it, but i dont drive the car in the winter...or rain....i think you need to consider your climate as well....Porsche designs a great product that will last a long time and maintain the quality level, i dont expect that from my GHL, hind sight...no question PSE, the quality of the product albeit a little heavier than aftermarket is far superior and the sound a little deeper, porsche has and does spend a fair amount of money to get it right and to stay right....now much difference in price between Fabspeed and PSE, GHL is consderably less.... good luck with your choice. Ted

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

where is the best place to buy a PSE that will ship it overseas. Good service and good price.

POST 21Original post

Just ordered some Fabs off their website - I figure I can try them out, and if I don't like 'em, I can always ebay 'em... PSE was going to run double the price, so what the hay.

POST 22Original post

put fabspeed muffler on today (about 2 hours). Sound is great! Can hear the engine throughout the RPM range including above 5,000 RPM whine. Track day in a couple of weeks.

POST 23Original post

That's encouraging... I'm looking forward to the love I'm sure to get from the neighbors!

POST 24Original post

do what I did..... ran with fabspeed muffler bypass for a while. After that your neighbors will think you put a hybrid motor in your car.

POST 26Original post

The only reason would be that they did not look around before buying. If one does choose the PSE (I did), then it can be shipped from a dealer parts dept to your door for approximately $1400. It can occasionally be bought on Ebay (from a Porsche dealer) in the neighborhood of $1200. Sure is nice for me to be able to switch to quiet mode when appropriate .... but every P-car driver to his own tastes.

POST 27Original post

I am really thinking about putting the fabspeed bypass pipes on my 2003. I have the fabspeed sports exhaust and it does sound good but just not loud enough for my taste. Prior to this car I had a 1988 944 Turbo S with no catalytic converter and it sounded very loud and aggressive. The 996 with the sports exhaust certainly sounds ok but not nearly as loud, I miss it. I think the bypass pipes would bring me closer to the 951S sound that I miss.

POST 28Original post

Bypass pipes are rediculous on a daily driver,(unless you're 17) way too loud. I put them on when I go to the track, that's it. To find out, just pull your mufflers off and fire it up, that's exactly what bypass pipes sound like.

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought a fabspeed sight unseen on local ebay. Previous owner thought it was too loud so we will see how it goes when I fit it. Anyone seen the German company on Ebay buying up old mufflers and welding a small by pass pipe to improve the sound and then reselling for about $300. Appears to be doing very well based on site activity.

POST 30Original post

Let us know how you like the Fabspeed. I saw that company on Ebay. Has anyone tried their product??

POST 31Original post

Ive got fabs, they sound good at wot and have no resonance. I find them pretty quiet though, wish they were louder. could just be me

POST 32Original post

Fabspeeds are fine to me, but one man's "good" sound is another's "resonance", so don't take my word for it.
