Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

One of the legal folks at my work just forwarded me this info. Just want to pass it on and give you a heads-up: California Highway Patrol will launch a 30-day speeding ticket frenzy in CA starting January 25, 2006. The state estimates that 22 million dollars will be generated in speeding tickets. 3 million will go to pay California Highway Patrol officer overtime. There will be 90 California Highway Patrol officers on duty at all times patrolling the 7 freeways. They are the following: 73, 55, 133, 241, 57, 5, 605, 10, 60, 210 freeways. Now 7 mph above the limit can justify a ticket and every California Highway Patrol officers are supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 10 minutes. They have issued 50 brand new unmarked Crown Victoria cruisers and they are bringing all their part timers on full time. If you live or work in California you must take one of these freeways. It's up to you how fast you are going when they do. This is a test by the CHP to raise the extra funds for the State of California. The California State Legislators dreamed up this program to help close the budget gap. So be safe and don't forget speeding tickets are on you. You've been warned. So slow your roll.........and pass this on to your family and friends!

POST 2Original post

Thanks for the heads up. I drive on those freeways all the time.

POST 3Original post

Email hoax claims the California Highway Patrol is launching a 'speeding ticket frenzy'...

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Paul. If that is the case I apologize for the post and that is a good thing. I did get a ticket last week (not on my P-car but my old truck) for going 10 miles above the speed limit on the 710 fwy -- so just thought this was part of this. Just wanted to help my fellow Rennlisters.

POST 5Original post

It is still worth the post. I need all the help I can get to help me slow down on the Freeways!!!!!!!!!!!!!

POST 6Original post

I got the email from my PCA people...and it doesn't seem like a hoax....anyway i am getting my radar detector delivered tomorrow and think that this is the best month to test that thing......let's see if they are going to get me now!! Maybe I will even paint my car with special "under the radar paint!!" OR...just follow the flow....

POST 7Original post

The latest initiative to raise money, er I mean to catch speeders, is the use of speed cameras. There are some jurisdictions in MD that have been authorized to use this revenue generating device. I'm sorry to say that if they are successful in their goal to raise revenue, I'm certain they will soon spread elsewhere. One of the most attractive features of speed cameras is that they don't cost the jurisdictions anything to install or administer. The company that provides the cameras just takes a percentage of all of the revenue they generate.

POST 8Original post

Funny! I live in the Detroit area and I received an email from a friend where someone re-purposed the CHP email to say that Michagan police were doing the the same thing because Super Bowl XL is here. It was almost verbatim. Maybe we should start an email campaign about Porsche 996s are in high demand and prices for well taken care of 996s is skyrocketing. It appears people will believe anything they read online.

Path, I love your avatar. Do you have a full-size copy that I can steal?

POST 10Original post

Just a myth... http://www.snopes.com/politics/traffic/speeding.asp

POST 11Original post

I drive the 5, 405, and 73 everyday and have noticed a definite increase in law enforcement presence on the freeways over the last 2 weeks. It's too much of a coincidence to be a hoax e-mail.

POST 12Original post

Hahah - Myth was the first thing I thought when I read it... ... kind of like "Don't blink your lights at cars driving at night without their headlights on - it might be a gangbanger who will shoot you in the head"

POST 14Original post

then you better pay attention! If you drive like a Californian, (especially a southern Californian) then you are probably in the wrong lane, talking on the phone, drinking your latte. So for those drivers, they deserve to be cited. If you drive your German car like a German does, then you won't have any problems, because you will see the "good guys", before they see you, and you will take appropriate action. Go as fast as you want, just pay attention when you do it.

POST 16Original post

haha my cousin has eyes like a hawk, we were in his 95' civic hatchback, bouncing off the rev limiter, just ******* the thing - we come up over a hill and like a 1/4 mile ahead is a cop car - he goes 'raccoon' (police crown vics have black license plate tubs on white cars, makes them look like raccoon masks) and then the cop dissapears over this long hill - sure enough there was a cop right there. We tailed him maybe 10 cars off his back deck, he sped up we sped up, he slowed down we slowed down. some lady goes by the cop doing ten over and he lights up, my cousin nails it gotta' know what to look for. I can spot a P-71 vicky from a mile away.

Orient, yes, but remember everyone in California (whether it's NoCal or SoCal) has to deal with bigger issues than everyone else. Lets review: You know you're from California if: 1. Your coworker has 8 body piercings and none are visible. 2. You make over $300,000 and still can't afford a house. 3. You take a bus and are shocked at two people carrying on a conversation in English. 4. Your child's 3rd-grade teacher has purple hair, a nose ring, and is named Flower. 5. You can't remember . . is pot illegal? 6. You've been to a baby shower that has two mothers and a sperm donor. 7. You have a very strong opinion about where your coffee beans are grown, and you can taste the difference between Sumatran and Ethiopian. 8. You can't remember . . . is pot illegal? 9. A really great parking space can totally move you to tears. 10. Gas costs $1.00 per gallon more than anywhere else in the U.S .. 11. Unlike back home, the guy at 8:30 am at Starbucks wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses who looks like George Clooney really IS George Clooney. 12. Your car insurance costs as much as your house payment. 13. You can't remember . . . .is pot illegal? 14. It's barely sprinkling rain and there's a report on every news station: "STORM WATCH." 15. You pass an elementary school playground and the children are all busy with their cells or pagers. 16. It's barely sprinkling rain outside, so you leave for work an hour early to avoid all the weather-related accidents. 17. HEY!!!! Is pot illegal???? 18. Both you AND your dog have therapists. 19. The Terminator is your governor. 20. If you drive illegally, they take your driver's license. If you're here illegally, they want to give you one.

POST 19Original post

Sounds like an urban legion to me. Everyone knows that the freeways in LA LA Land are only parking lots that occassionally reposition. However, if the CHP doesn't want to waste anytime taking care of revenues, then they only need to put all of their officers on the 14 Freeway between the San Fernando Valley and the Antelope Valley. Here every low life as*hole driving a beater pickup truck goes 90 plus mph down hill, in and out of the truck lane, then boggs down to around 45 going up hill in the speed lane. Tom L 2002 C2
