The fronts still had about 30% left at that point - but I replaced all four tires anyway since I changed tires from contis to S03 pole position tires.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Guys, I'm curious to know what methodology you use to gague when you should change your tires. Is it: (A) objective (the ol' coin in the thread, etc.), (B) subjective ("doesn't feel like I've got the same grip, etc."), (C) rule-of-thumb based ("I've driven x-many miles as an aggressive driver and so it's time to change"), or (D) some combination of the above. If so, which factor do you put more weight on? Regards.

POST 2Original post

A. The penny in the tread approach - though some tires have treadware bars you can use as a references. As a point of reference, I found that the rear tires on my C4 flunked the penny test (close to it) at around 13,000 miles. The fronts still had about 30% left at that point - but I replaced all four tires anyway since I changed tires from contis to S03 pole position tires.

POST 3Original post

I use the treadwear bars and have to change the rears before the fronts if I stay with the same tire.
