Reported cause
It turned out that the contract was worked out without major work stoppages anyway, so there wasn’t much of a delay for normal delivery cars either.

One thing he did say was that in the event of production cuts due to a strike Porsche would fill all orders first before inventory cars, that is firm orders would be filled before dealer ordered inventory.

As we all know, Porsche outsources a huge amount of the components and the union is striking all the suppliers too, so even if Porsche is'nt struck, Porsche could run short of parts.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am waiting for a C4S, June build. The metalworkers union in Germany are striking auto factories on a rotating basis. Porsche has been hit at least once with a one day strike. If they get hit once a week that could cut production by 15%. Has anyone been advised by their dealers that there could be a delay in delivery? My dealer says he has heard nothing. Surely PNA must be keeping their dealers advised of the situation. As we all know, Porsche outsources a huge amount of the components and the union is striking all the suppliers too, so even if Porsche is'nt struck, Porsche could run short of parts. Our wait for C4S's could be a long one. Anyone heard anything?
coop,
I’ve been in the approximately the same position you are in ...twice... except that it was even worse. In June 1984 I was awaiting a new Carrera for Tourist delivery. Obviously the risk was not only that my car would be late due to the Metalworkers Union strike, but also that it would be unavailable for me to drive in Europe while I was there. My worst fears were realized, the factory shut down for about 3 weeks and being able to visit the newly reopened factory and see my just-built car on the last day of my trip was small consolation.
15 years later, in June 1999 I planned a return to Stuttgart to pick up my 996 C2. Although in the intervening years we’d picked up a Mercedes, a BMW, and a Volvo in Europe I still wanted the thrill of taking the keys to a Porsche in Zuffenhausen. I guess I should have known better because the Metalworkers contract runs for 3 year periods, which made 1999 another re-negotiation year. I couldn't believe it when I began to learn of labor unrest and spot plant closings. Fortunately, Porsche made a special effort on Tourist cars and mine was built in late April in anticipation of potential problems in June. It turned out that the contract was worked out without major work stoppages anyway, so there wasn’t much of a delay for normal delivery cars either. Hopefully, the current labor issues will be worked out, and your car will be delivered on time. Good luck!

The powerful union IG Metall's wildcat strikes are having a negative impact on the entire German economy with global repercussions.
The IG Metall's website looks forebodes of ominous acts to come! Unfortunately, it's only in german!

In addition to the obvious impact of delays, I'm wondering if the price of Porsches in the US will rise in anticipation (ie, demand versus supply). As somebody who is looking to trade up, I'm curious if the strike will increase '02 prices.
I guess it's partially a function of how long these strikes last.
Would appreciate any thoughts.
Regards.
I paid MSRP for my June build. The dealer here is quite fair in that respect. I am wondering what will happen if my '02 gets delayed and becomes an '03, do I get to pay '03 price or does Porsche look after it customers? DO I take priority over the '03 orders? On the one hand, Mr Wendelin boasts about how profitable the company is but he must find a way to keep the employees content and not give loyal cutomers the feeling of getting screwed. I have my 99 C2 for sale, but not knowing when the C4S will arrive puts me in a a bit of a dilemna, when to sell? My dealer claims to know very little or nothing about the strike, unusual, if there are no Porsches to sell for a while, they will suffer financially.
Coop,
Like you, I have a June build C4S. The last update my dealer has in the computer is the preproduction check off on 4/02. Supposedly the next step is the establishment of a production date. The order just before mine had the check off, the last week in March, production date was scheduled on 4/08 and it is now listed as completed production ready for shipment. All the time, no news on my vehicle. This lack of info, coupled with the strike, and the sale of my 740i is really killing me!
My dealer is keeping a low profile on this, acting as though everything is OK....I hope he's right. One thing he did say was that in the event of production cuts due to a strike Porsche would fill all orders first before inventory cars, that is firm orders would be filled before dealer ordered inventory. I have a friend here who is waiting for a GT2, the ONLY one to be delivered in Western Canada. It is due within the next few weeks. Our DE days are going to be exciting this summer.
