Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

IF you take VIN to local dealer - they might be able to pull up service records - or check CARFAX

Brake fluid is good safety idea if you don't know when it was changed last - check pad and rotor thickness & tire condition/wear

I would have replaced both sides but the shop manager advised against it saying they are pretty long lived that just replacing the bad one was good enough.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Considering buying a 996
With just over 50,000 mile
and unfortunately no service records
The seller just install new clutch
and front wheel bearings
( why would it need wheel bearings at 50,000 miles ?)
I plan on a IMS/RMS upgrade
L&N
But what else ?
Thanks in advance
IF you take VIN to local dealer - they might be able to pull up service records - or check CARFAX
Assume no service was done - change oil, air filter, cabin filter, fan belt - all are easy DIY - or cheap at an Indie. If you didn;t already get PPI done - get Indie to do good PPI inspection at that time and see what else they find.
Brake fluid is good safety idea if you don't know when it was changed last - check pad and rotor thickness & tire condition/wear
If car is 10 years old - might want to consider water pump
Transmission fluid is cheap preventative
IMS upgrade is expensive unless you need clutch anyway - but if you do it there are lots of threads on what else to do while in there (AOS etc.)
If car is running fine you can leave plugs for a while (due at 60K - but I would change at 5 years max)
Wheel bearings ? If car is in winter climate maybe 10yr/50K could need doing - but I don't think that common at this mileage ?Maybe others can comment.
Service records would be nice but some owners just do not save these. But if (big if) the car checks out ok the lack of service records is not a show stopper.
But you do have to be quite thorough in your check out of the car.
Also since you do not know what was done when you have to factor in the cost of bringing the servicing up to date. Oil/filter, air filter, cabin filter, brake/clutch fluid bleed though this might have been done when the clutch was done, coolant drain/refill, tranny/diff fluid drain/refill, alignment.
Trouble is a seller will probably not want to drop his price by what these cost instead choosing to wait for a less knowledgeable buyer to come along.
Wheel bearings can fail at any time. A rear one failed in my car at 80K miles. I would have replaced both sides but the shop manager advised against it saying they are pretty long lived that just replacing the bad one was good enough.
He was right as the OE bearings have over 262K miles on them while the replacement bearing has just 160K miles.
What Macster said... Assume you must change all fluids immediately. Brakes are also a potentially costly concern. You should ensure the PPI goes beyond just a quick visual check. If original they are probably due for a change.
