Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suspected cause

I would guess based on your description that it is probably the secondary air pump, especially if you only hear it when the cars cold and it goes away after a few minutes of driving.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a low speed whine, especially noticable when it is still warming up. The whine comes in at different RPMS, very high pitch, and always goes away when I open the throttle up a little more. It speeds up at first, and then goes away. Any idea? I was thinking it sounds kind of like an Air leak.

Does the whine follow the engine rpms? Or vehicle speed? Is it affecting by depressing the clutch or by selecting another Tip state? Remember there is a secondary air injection pump that comes on at cold start and in some cars can emit a whine (mine sounds like a hoover vacuum cleaner running in the distance).

POST 3Original post

I would guess based on your description that it is probably the secondary air pump, especially if you only hear it when the cars cold and it goes away after a few minutes of driving. Mine went about 1 year ago and I still haven't replaced it. I'm no mechanic but my understanding is that it has to do with the exhaust system and its purpose is to improve emissions so to quote my mechanic, "If your an environmentalist, get it fixed now otherwise I would wait until you drop the engine again for a repair and take care of it then."

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It follows RPMS. I think that a secondary air pump would be the exact cause, it fits. Thank you for the help guys!

POST 5Original post

If it follows RPMs and continues after warm-up ... consider the bearing(s) on your belt idlers (3). Very easy and low cost DIY.
