Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi experts,
This is my first post in this awesome site....
I've been trying to do as much research as possible to make the right choice.
I have always loved the 996 911 and I'm finally looking to make the jump.
I found a pristine 2002 cab tiptronic triple black but with 99K for 22,800.
The RMS was just replaced and the car had two owners the first being a lease and the second was an older conservative fellow.
The car rides solid as hell, no noises, great response and checks out with a PPI...
Would this be a car that should be passed or purchased in your honest opinion?
Any input would be greatly appreciated..
Who did the PPI? That can make a difference. I personally like to find examples under 70k miles but at 99k the price is just ok. It does look like a very sharp car in your pic. Just remember there are a lot of good cars out there and the search is a blast, so be patient. If this car feels like the right one only you will know, if not keep looking. Good luck.
I'm certainly no expert, but as having recently purchased my first Porsche, I'd offer these questions.
Have you (test) driven another 996?
Have you driven a manual shift, 6-speed? Unless you're commuting, I'd avoid the tip-tronic. Previous to driving a manual shift I was convinced I wanted an automatic.
If the RMS was changed, was the IMS bearing upgraded?
that's a beautiful car BTW
Porsche87 said it, drive the car, with a good PPI if it feels right you'll know. Price is only OK with the mileage. If you are not tied to a local purchase you can find some great cars for similar price with less miles and it is fun looking.
I'll echo what others have said, and add a bit.
Don't just test drive this Porsche, test drive a bunch. For me, and some others, buying their first Porsche can be an emotional experience. Do not let the emotions override sound judgment. Make a list of deal breakers and a list of must-haves. Stick to it! You are asking us to validate what your gut is already telling you, but again, be careful. We want you to join the club, but as has been pointed out, there are PLENTY of fish in the sea. If you need to throw this one back for any reason, another will bite soon.
Good luck and let us know how is goes.
Wow, this was exactly the feedback I'd hope to get - very helpful, thanks so much.
This is going to be my daily driver, with a very short drive to work and every other weekend trips to Long Island from Albany (210 miles) as well as tearing it up on the Adirondack mountain roads.
The tiptronic part would put me off along with the high milage. That being said, I like the manuals although I have never driven a tiptronic so what the hell do I know.. Thats a lot to pay for a high milage car. I would look further for something half that milage. Thats IMHO. Good luck.
