Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
My 3.4 litre tiptronic changes gears around 2000 to 2500 under normal driving and changes through the gears up to 5th very soon after pulling off under normal driving.
Leading evidence: 'Replace gears around 2000' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace gears around 2000' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Surely the box manufacturers must believe that this is the optimum gear changing range.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3000-4000 cold. But once she's warmed up? 7200, give or take a few. Gotta lubricate that IMS! Rare enough that I'm not stuck behind someone really slow, though
Between 3000 and 4000 I like to change. Thats when the engine is up to temps around 180F. I dont let the revs drop below 2000. When I see it down to 2500 I usually drop a gear. 6th gear at 3000rpm runs at 80MPH.. 5th at 3000rpm about 70mph. Lets put it this way. I feel happy when the revs are between 2500 and 3000rpms. Occassionally I blow some **** out and take it over the ton in 4th in a short burst. BUT I dont drive like that all the time.
Cold, cool, or just not fully warmed up under 4K and closeer to 3K.
Once fully warmed up it varies but often 3K or higher, sometimes 6K or even once in a while higher stilll when say accelerating away from a metering stop light on the freeway on ramp and getting up to freeway speed, or whenever I have to accelerate from a stop or from a very slow speed to high speed and have the room and the speed limit on my side. While one doesn't want to violate (in areas where I drive) the 65mph speed limit (well, I do want to violate the limit I just don't...) one can certainly get up to 65mph as nearly as fast as he wants to as long as he's not driving recklessly.
Interesting seeing the high revs posted by the owners of manual boxes. My 3.4 litre tiptronic changes gears around 2000 to 2500 under normal driving and changes through the gears up to 5th very soon after pulling off under normal driving. BTW the tips always pull off in 2nd.
Surely the box manufacturers must believe that this is the optimum gear changing range.
The Tip and now the PDK shift maps are tuned for the egregious EU fuel economy/CO2 tests. Doing well in these tests is very important so all automakers game the system as much as they can. On a related note, this is one reason why 6, 7, even 8 speed transmissions are showing up.
So unless the driver makes an effort to wring more revs out of the engine the automatic transmission controller will upshift at rather low revs.
exactly exactly
and that means min once/day
I prefer more like once a "start" as a rule but you need to rev it up when warm or we will all laugh at you
i have a 99 tip and never drive in the auto mode, always keep around 3000 and usually shift around 4000 and when i get the chance hit the 6000+,tips do not feel right in the auto mode always lugging
