but there is a issue there, , the wife likes it like it is, at least the rear spoiler is small if it had a wider one, you would have no choice but to change the front, right now we just want to get used to it a little and make suure we dont find any issues that come up soon, every thing seems to be fone, we have put about 400 miles on it so far, there is a pretty good whine int eh radio that we have to figure out

It drives really nice has no leaks at all, and seems to run very smooth, previous owner had put a K&n cold air kit on it that I will replace with a closed box asap, but that seems to be the only mod to it, one thing I would like to ask is, I wonder if anyone here has added a electric hood release to one of these cars, my wife will be driving it to work and back often and it would be a nice mod as she will be in and out of the hood everyday she drives it to take her computer bag with.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hello
We have just bought our first carrera it is a 2000 black cabriolet, 6 speed manual. with 60k miles. It drives really nice has no leaks at all, and seems to run very smooth, previous owner had put a K&n cold air kit on it that I will replace with a closed box asap, but that seems to be the only mod to it, one thing I would like to ask is, I wonder if anyone here has added a electric hood release to one of these cars, my wife will be driving it to work and back often and it would be a nice mod as she will be in and out of the hood everyday she drives it to take her computer bag with.
thanks!
the one pic is the night we bought it, it was after dark so the pic is not good, the rest are the dealer photos
thanks, I'll dig until I find yes or no to a retrofit, I know this car has a newer fob and when you push the button for the truck (oops hood,g>) release it lights the red alarm light on the dash, so maybe I can find one and it is possible to do it, maybe not, but it would be neat, plus we have to make it "ours" that would be a good start <g>
ill try to add a pic, we only have one at night and then ones from the dealership we bought it at, we did buy this one at a Porsche Dealer
You say no other mods, The rear spoiler has been changed. Looks like 18" sport classic 2 wheels and the pumpkins have been changed. Did you manage to get the hard top with the car? Nice looking job BTW.
get rid of te K and N. Its made to race, not to drive daily and doesnt not filter as well as the stock unit.
People all the time get confused and think "well the use it on race cars, must be better than stock" Um no... sadly many items ment for the track can be out right dangerouse for road use.
Second Item to stay away from on the road is Stainless braided Brake lines.
I wasn't thinking about the spoiler honestly, I was thinking only performance mods, no I did not get the hard top it was a delete from the order sheet, the previous owner had the spoiler done on it.
They printed out the build sheet for us, the car sold new at a local ATL dealer
wheels were code xrb 18"sport classic ordered with the car, along with 446 wheel caps with colored crest, now am I sure they are the correct xrb wheels and 446 covers? no, I'm not, but they are on the build sheet, where can I find out for sure? that would be nice to know for sure.
it also came with this list ordered
savanna beige full leather int
Porsche stability management
hi-fi sound pkg w/speakers
Porsche windstop defelctor (which I have but a hinge is broken)
am/fm radio with cd player (which all works but has a whine to it)
delete cabriolet hardtop
supple leather front and rear
savvana beige flor mats
power seat package
headlight washers
xenon headlights
we just got the car back tonight, I had the front of the car wrapped in the clear protective film by the dealership, yes there were a couple very small marks on it we put the wrap over, but I want to keep it as nice as possible.
yea, know all about K&N, besides that, the KnN CAI kit defeats the purpose with a open air box under the hood, did a bunch of performance woek and used to have a couple pretty hot muscle cars, we put scoops on to get the cool air into the carb, not to take the hot engine compartment heat! I get a kick out of all the CAI out there they are just open under the hood of a truck or car, they should be called hot air i ntakes <g>, I aill admit this probably works better than most with it having a snorkel that at least goes directly to air forced in during driving, still we are going to replace it with a full box.
The mechanical truck release has its advantage - you can open your trunk even if the battery dies, without going through hoops.
Beautiful car, enjoy the ride!
That's a beauty and hopefully you get to drive it every once and a while. I would also consider a
LED interior lighting kit
to brighten up the interior. Enjoy
Thank you, and I'm already working on my excuses to have it left here, she is pretty mechanically knowledgeable in a way, so I'll have to do good,
honey I need to change the oil today but I might not get it finished, honey I need to check the brakes out today while I have time, honey I need to service the trans, honey it's time to change the oil again, her, AGAIN? you just did that last week and I only pout 500 miles on it!
ME, but honey it's a high performance machine and they require more maintenance, that should work a couple times....... <g>
shoot, now that I said that I should have used a different login name, she will see this and I'm busted <grin>
I took a quick look, might be nice in there, do you just sell those or do you manufacture them?
There are a few things we want to do to it soon, right now im digging into putting a retro electric hood opener in, not sure if I will be able to pull it off or not and have it work off the key fob, I know when you push the truck open button on the fob, it lights the red light on the dash, so I need to figure out that system and see what ties into the system and hopefully get it to work, I think I may have found a electric latch off a newer one, I need a wiring diagram and some more information on the remote system anyhow that will do two things, give me a extra day to drive it, and if I can pull it off make her happy I had the extra day to drive "our" car hehehe
but honestly, she knows all my tricks and just plays along, she already said, maybe we need two of these... I said why,. so you can claim them both?? hahaha
no, just hood fenders mirrors door handles and front lip of rear fenders, oh edge of doors, I'm going to go back and ask about the windshield pillars, I just assumed they would do those, I really was very hesitant, as this is an old car, and there are a couple very small marks in it already, but they are so little I would not have had any paint work done on the car,
so I figured what the heck save the rest as best as possible.
where we live gravel is horrible year round, you plan on a windshield every year at least, you think the insurance companies would be complaining to the state dot about it, it is so bad here
Nice car. Not sure if I would keep the spoiler without an aero front bumper. I have a stock airbox in the garage. Just pay shipping and handling. Its yours.
I was wondering about changing the front to something,. but there is a issue there, , the wife likes it like it is, at least the rear spoiler is small if it had a wider one, you would have no choice but to change the front, right now we just want to get used to it a little and make suure we dont find any issues that come up soon, every thing seems to be fone, we have put about 400 miles on it so far, there is a pretty good whine int eh radio that we have to figure out
im interested in your air box, I have to run out now, but will pm you later ok
thanks!
IMHO, the rear spoiler seems fine on there as its the more understated factory one. If it had the gt3 on there(not that it would work with the vert), it would definitely stand out more and seem unbalanced.
I wouldn't really put it up on the priority list unless it bothers you personally. Plus good luck on finding an OEM Aero bumper these days. Even if you found one there's the cost aspect and then you'll most likely need to balance that with sideskirts.
I did my OEM aero kit one piece at a time and in the end, I spent quite a bit of time trying to locate the pieces and then paying a pretty penny on them. I'm not sure you want to go through the same process.
hmmm, was that a factory installed spoiler? I do have a pic of the underside of that lid here.
yea it's fine the way it is, at least for now, I did see one listed on CL around here, but I think it is for a 2002 and said it would not fit a 2000. besides not sure what we will end up doing with this car next year, will she use it for a "everyday" driver and sell her current car? or a second driver, she did say, we need two of these , which means selling her current car for sure. thing is, for some reason, i think she meant two for her, hahahaha
btw when we bought it, I didn't realize the clear marker lights were not stock, I do like them on it really well, I cna;t seem to leave this thing alone though... it's bringing me back to my old hotrod days , I'm going for the air box change nex,t but think I may go to the 997 like I asked in another place, when i find one, I'm going to see about changing the part where is says porches 3.8, I think that is metal more than likely glued too the box?
if so, I need to get good on my friends mill! it will say Porsche when I'm done, but the 3.8 wont be there.
