Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Outcome without a verified action link

But they looked right and a small amount of silicone and some tape to hold them in place while it set did the trick.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All. Just got the Aluminum Instrument Ring kit from Eagle Day. I know that many of you have had issues with the super glue and some suggested that silicone works much better. Just a little input to avoid a mess: 1) How much silicone did you use (a few drops or a steady bead)? 2) Brand recommendations? I usually use DAP Clear Silicone II for stuff like this. Thoughts? Thanks in advance and have a great weekend!

POST 2Original post

any RTV should work. I'd use just a couple of small dots. I've found them to almost stay in place without any adhesive needed. If that's not enough you can always use more.

POST 3Original post

I put a small dot every 3/4 of an inch or so, and taped them in place with masking tape overnight. Not sure that was necessary, but I can tell you that they've stayed in place for two years. I originally put them on with glue that came with the kit. They all started to detach as soon as the weather got cold. I've not had a single issue with them since I used the clear silicone.

POST 4Original post

When using the silicone, I would say less is more. Don't use too much, or it gets messy. I used some ultra-clear silicone from home depot.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all. Have a great weekend.

POST 6Original post

Use the clear silicone. With it if you use too much it is an easy clean up. With super glue if you make a mistake it is a big problem.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I really thought this would be easy. First off, the bezels don't fit snuggly to begin with and the thought of gobbing a bunch of silicone on them to stay on really didn't feel right. Not worth messing up the dash if they don't stay put. Looks like a return item.

POST 8Original post

That's too bad to hear they don't fit well as I was considering some for my car. Do some brands fit better than others?

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 10010062

Mine were not a tight fit. They would not stay on by themselves. But they looked right and a small amount of silicone and some tape to hold them in place while it set did the trick. Three years later they look great and have not moved a millimeter.
