Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Mine is a fair weather driver, so I wanted the best performing tires, not all season, ( and absolutely hated the brand new tires that the PO had blessed me with) but if yours is to be a daily driver then you have to have all seasons, so take in to account the cost of replacing the rubber if required when dealing.
Leading evidence: 'Replace rubber if required' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace rubber if required' (1 discussions). More important, for instance, than that is what tires they installed, and what you will use the car for.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Gonna buy a 996 and have settled on two choices. A 2003 with 24500 miles or a 2004 with 41400 miles. I've negotiated a deal on the 2003, and plan to look it over Tuesday, Nov 20, 2012. I'm seriously considering the 2004 despite a long round trip to get it? Informed opinions are welcome.

I also like the color combo of the 2004 better. If you really like both of them then get a PPI on both before you decide. But get a PPI either way at an Indy. Do they have maintenance history on them?
neither
Sorry, there's nothing that excites me about either car. Look long and hard, wait 'till one comes around that will knock your socks off. You won't have to ask, "which one?" you will know it will be the car you must have.
Between these two cars I'd opt for the 2004 - they always say to go for the latest year of the series PLUS the listing says the 2004 has PSE (Porsche Sport Exhaust). I have PSE on both of mine and can't imagine having one with out it. Color schemes are subjective - I wouldn't buy a car just because of color - more about which is the better car and only you can try to determine that. Plus I am not one to comment on the colors - my C2 is artic silver over black and the C4S is Midnight blue over grey. I like both of them.
It's been a tough call. I like the low mileage of the 2003 and it's conveniently located. The silver 2004 has performance options I like but has ~17K more miles, and 508 miles away.
17K more mile is nothing. Unless you can go and see the '04 and see whay shape it is in, there is no point discussing it. Also, since you've already negotiated the price on the first one, why not go through with it. The buyer is probably not expecting you to walk away from it.
I've not seen either car. The 2003 deal is contingent on successful visual inspection to verify condition--which was tentatively planned for tomorrow. Meanwhile I'm looking into the silver 2004 via telephone.
I will play devils advocate and say that unless you actually drive each one, it's impossible to tell, and that is more important to me than color & interior, to an extent. Visually, I like the '04, and newer is always better and both have low miles ( and sometimes too low miles is not a good thing), but before I bought my '02 in '08, I drove around 6 of them, and they all drove so different (motor sound & feel, suspension noises, creaks, handling, etc) that some I just crossed off as soon as I drove them, regardless of the color combo. I lucked out with getting the combo I actually wanted with all the options I was looking for, (for instance I had to have PSM, and really wanted the Comfort and Technics package with the soft style leather seats), my car was only lacking PSE. Considering the PSE hack is so cheap and easy to do, and sounds exactly the same, and is actually longer lasting (as long as the bypass pipe is SS), I found PSE is a non deciding factor, now that I did mine. More important, for instance, than that is what tires they installed, and what you will use the car for. Don't be in a hurry, just because you want one..there will always be more.
The question is impossible to answer without knowing options. For example, does either car have PSM, full leather, etc.? The 04 does not look like it has full leather.
Not the heart of the decision, but an important aspect to consider when you get down to just two cars.
The blue 2003 is a standard coupe with 18-inch wheels and heated seats. The silver 2004 has 18s, heated seats, sport suspension, sport exhaust, Bose sound system. The intake is modified.
Proving my point exactly about the importance of options. Those suspension and exhaust options are fairly rare on a base Carrera. Sport exhaust was a $2,400 option in 2004.
Based on overall condition and PPI results, and depending on the intake mod quality, I would choose the 2004.
If your deciding factor is low mileage then you have not done enough research when it comes to purchasing these cars.
Low mileage and no maintence records would cause me to stop looking at this car.
Slightly higher mileage and no records would cause me to pass on that one too.
That 2004 does not seem to have any kind of special exhaust tips as listed in the ad, they look just like the ones on my '02 C2. Get the guy to send you all the option codes on the sticker under the the trunklid and make sure you look them up. Some dealers will write everything they can in the description, whether it's true or not. Compared to our Minivan, my C2 certainly has a "Sports Exhaust" but that does not mean it is the factory option Sports Exhaust...That being said, I find the standard exhaust from 02 on to be perfectly adequate and having a great sound...
Where's the links? I voted the silver car because I like silver and there's less chance that the interior is the colour of peanut butter. I like the sport suspension too....

The 2004 has spotty history, and his been at several auctions. The equipment listed is under question. CarFax shows no record of routine maintenance performed. The Metroplex sales rep was slow in responding to requests for more information and was negative about my wanting photos of the undercarriage. Some of the claims he made could not have been confirmed by the few records that were available.
The 2003 is completely stock, and its CarFax shows service records of routine maintenance performed, and other extra services (such as new tires, brake flushes, etc). The owner was responsive to all of my requests for additional info, disclosed all aspects of his car, and was reasonable during our negotiations.
bumper-to-bumper traffic here in SoCal (at its worst, might as well call some freeways a parking lot) = bad news for an air-cooled 911. Not sure how traffic is for you. Best of luck with your search.
P.S. was all set to get a 993 years ago but an uncle (who has one) and local mechanic (who has a few) both suggested that I look into a 996 instead.
