This morning, Ray Munsch (who started the whole thing with a bunch of 928 guys and gals) checked with Camille's, also in Brier Creek, but with a larger and mostly unoccupied lot on Saturday mornings, and they are more than happy to have us.

No change to the Bean & Bagel - I met the new owners last week and they're awesome.
I live in Apex, NC. Would anyone like to get together next Saturday for coffee and cars at the Bean & Bagel shop in Cary next Saturday?
I'm rarely able to attend the PCA Coffee gatherings on Saturday morning because it's a bit of a drive.
Let me know if you're interested.

You ever do the dinners? I've done a couple, don't recall seeing your car there?
I live in Cary, and hang out w/2 other friends who're club members quite often. We don't really follow non track related PCA events that closely though...
Ahmet
I haven't attended any of the club dinners yet. To be honest, I just don't know that many people in the club, and the last couple times at the Briar Creek Caribou has been a little disappointing - no parking, no seating, no opportunity to get to know anyone. But, I've been in three previous PCA chapters and had a great experience. So, that's why I proposed the coffee in Cary/Apex.
I'm open to meeting for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Time is a little tight from time-to-time - juggling work and family time. But, let's keep talking. I'm thinking of approaching a 928 owner and a Boxster owner in my subdivision and asking them too. I just returned from my usual weekend drive on Old Apex Hwy and Beaver Creek Rd. and saw a beautiful black '80s Targa Turbo - I might stop by there too.
I proposed Bean & Bagel because there is a huge parking lot in front of the place. One of my frustrations with Briar Creek Caribou is that if you're not among the first handful of Porsches to show up, you have to park farther away and out-of-sight.
I'll plan for 8:30-ish at Bean & Bagel next Saturday. If they're not open, we could also do Brueggers across the street. Let me know if you're coming so I'm not standing there feeling a little embarrassed.
Bob
couldn't agree more. I went last summer (2006) with Matt and had I not known him I would have felt like an idiot just standing around in the coffee shop. THere was ZERO parking and the quarters were tight. I am sure it is a great time but only if there were ROOM.
BTW,
Where is the bean and bagel in cary?
Bean & Bagel is actually in Apex. 5404 Apex Peakway to be exact. It's next to a Lowe's grocery store.
If you are travelling in from 64 to 55 southeast (headed for Fuquay), you'll pass the Beaver Creek Commons shopping center (Panera, Office Max, QDoba, Panda Cafe) and it will be on your right about a 1/4 mile up the road.
As a reminder, I recommend this place b/c there is a huge parking lot right in front. Also, the bagels are great and they have all varieties of coffee. That being said, if there is another place with a large lot, I'm happy to try it.
Try this link. It gives a good representation of the Bean & Bagel.

Guys,
There is a great group meeting every Saturday morning in Brier Creek at Caribou Coffee. (Near RDU of Hgwy 79). Mostly local PCA, including track guys, 356 guys, 928 guys 911 guys, 986 guys... Very varied group, looser and more social than the dinner meetings. Try it out. starts around 8 on Saturdays. Feel free to PM me for any other details.
Tom
Thanks, Tom. I just haven't been able to get out there soon enough to get a good spot - either inside or out. It takes me about 35 minutes to drive out there, and I haven't been successful the last 3 tries. Nothing against the PCA members there, but no parking and no seating with the club members makes it difficult to get to know anyone - especially since they all know each other well.
I'm hoping to meet a few enthusiasts and share a cup of coffee a little closer to home. We'd love to see you there.
I will try to make it... please confirm the time, 8:30 ish? January 19.
Actually, I don't need directions, I'll just look for the yellow glow over the horizon coming from Dell's car.
Michael
I'll continue to go to the Brier Creek coffee, as I have many friends there. I hate to see you guys split off, but I understand the parking and seating issues. It has been too successful. I look forward to it every week. I e-mailed the "founder of the Koffee Klatch" this AM suggesting the new Starbucks on highway 55, just south of 54 in RTP. Not because it is closer to you, but because it is a very large Starbucks, with lot's of internal seating, and good parking. I would also assume that it is quiet on Saturday mornings. If this happens, I'll let you know.
Tom
Hi -- NC guys. A bunch of us here in Myrtle Beach --- Porsche guys get together about once a month on a Sunday - go for a drive , have a late lunch and a few adult beverages. If you guys want to meet half way we would be happy to meet. There is about 10 of us and always looking for a new place to drive.
Hurricane is the club we are in -- but there is no meeting in this area.
Chuck 951 & 996
Chuck 951,
Please PM me regarding Hurricane Region activities. We have an area director in Wilmington who is trying to co-ordinate things at the coast, and I will gladly get you in touch with him. I know Raleigh is a bit of a trek to participate in anything form you location. Thanks for the post.
Jerry
Hey guys,
I'm in Pittsboro and am a PCA member of the Caroilinas Region.
There are two options for PCA in the Triangle area, the Hurricane Region and the Carolinas Region. Several of us in the area are members of the Carolinas Region. We meet the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 at Blinkos on Glenwood. We would welcome any Hurricane members to our meetings. We also occasionally do one-day drives on Saturdays.
As far as getting together on Saturday morning, I think that the weather will keep me from getting out.
RKim,
I like your car. Mine is an '01 aerokit coupe in lapis blue.
Randy
Dell - I'm guessing that no one will want to come out in this weather, so we can give it a shot next weekend. Desidon will be back next weekend too. I'm still going to show up at the Bean & Bagel, just in case anyone does show - I feel responsible. Also, I want to stretch the 996's legs a little since it's been in the garage all week. It isn't raining now (8:10); just wet pavement.
Thanks for the compliment, Randy. I've had some great drives in Pittsboro - I have family out your way. Ditto regarding your 996.
Chuck, I come to Myrtle frequently and would like to meet your group some time. I'd also meet you guys half way - let me know when.
Hey, Randy - I'll try to get to Blinkos next time you guys get together. It's close to my office, but I have a difficult time getting to functions during the week due to work/family.
I'm at the Bean & Bagel and it's raining pretty hard now. Just an excuse to clean and wax the 996 when I get home. I'll hope for better weather next week.
Sorry I missed you, figured nobody would come (from Rennlist anyway, -ha) in the rain. I'll be at Laguna Seca next Saturday, so maybe next time you're meeting in Cary, we'll meet...
Ahmet
Hey, everyone. I was just reminded by my lovely wife that we're taking the family to Naples next week. I won't be back until next Sunday. I'll see anyone who's interested Saturdays after next. See you then.
Sorry I missed you guys too. I had a later than expected night Friday and slept in until 8:30 - plus with the forecasted weather, I figured it would be cancelled. Please update the thread or PM me or something otherwise I'll assume that it will be 8:30 next Saturday at the same place, weather permitting.
Michael
This is the first opportunity I have had to read through this entire thread. Please let me address some of the thoughts and concerns that have been brought up.
1) The Brier Creek venue was initially chosen because it had the space we needed at the time, and
was convenient to I-540 and thus to members coming from various directions. As has been stated,
this has become a victim of it's own success, and we are definately outgrowing the space. If anyone
has a suggestion for a location that can handle 25 people or more, with good parking, I am open to
suggestions.
2) I am sorry that some have felt out of place by not knowing anyone at the Saturday morning coffees.
We were all first-timers at a PCA event at one point. Yes, group is large, and yes we all seem to be
friends, but a number of those friends were first exposed to the club at this "event". We all try to
make everyone feel welcome. Just come over, introduce yourself, and before long, you will be
joining in the various conversations with the rest of us, and be one of the "large group of friends".
3) These Saturday morning get-togethers are strictly a social event, though we do occationally use
them as a springboard for a BBQ run or to head to a Tech Session. Thus, people wander in at
various times and leave as their schedule requires. We do use them to keep everyone up to date
on upcoming activities and collect registration forms for events, on occation.
4) As I posted earlier, for those members near the coast, we do have a fairly active group in
Wilmington. I am always trying to get members in any part of the Region to offer to head up an
activity. The club will support them. Just try to avoid dates that already have an event scheduled
for the Region to maximize participation.
5) Finally, if any of you have a problem with Hurricane Region and the activities we hold, PLEASE let
me know. We are here for the members, and would not exist without them. I can be contacted via
this website of through the Hurricane Region, PCA website. Thanks to those of you who have
bothered to read this far, and sorry for the "local" content for the other Rennlist members.
Jerry Magolan
President, Hurricane Region, PCA
Hey, Michael - I'm not going to be there, but there's nothing stopping anyone from meeting there or anywhere else in the area. If anyone does get together in Cary/Apex, post it to the list, and I'll be sure to come the following Saturday.
Bob
Good morning, Tom - Any word on whether the Saturday morning KoffeeKlatch would consider the new Starbucks on highway 55, just south of 54 in RTP? I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
No change to the Bean & Bagel - I met the new owners last week and they're awesome. I was just curious about the PCA social possibly changing locations.
I'm in Naples on vacation with the family until Sunday. But, I'm sure the Bean & Bagel folks would love the new customers - I've already told them to expect a few of us on a Saturday in the future. I wish I could be there this weekend. I've done so much polishing on the Carrera that I'm dying to show it to some people who would appreciate it.
As an aside, I'm amazed at the cars in Naples. Last night, I saw a yellow Diablo, 3 Aston Martin DBs and a yellow Ferrari 360 Spider. Drool actually seeped from my mouth.
I hope you guys are up for next Saturday, and I hope the weather cooperates. If anyone meets at the Bean & Bagel this weekend, let me know how it goes.
Hi All!
As Tom has mentioned it may be time to reconsider the Briar Creek location. It was sort of a compromise for the folks that live in North Raleigh back in the days when our monthly dinner meeting was in Cary. Also it began as a very informal gathering of 928 guys that sort of snowballed the past few years. A good issue that I will raise with the Hurricane Region board.
I live in Apex and make the drive to Briar Creek most Saturday mornings. I agree it is a bit of a distance. But have you all considered that one route puts you on the newly opened section of I540 early on a Saturday morning?
As for parking, sure it is a bit tight in front ( I did get a good spot this morning around 8:15). But there is a large, and largely empty lot out the back door. Easy for overflow. I know a bunch of participants who just use that and don't try to wrestle with the competition out front with the nearby Bruegers.
As for the coffee crowd - I have been around several PCA regions and have to say this is the most friendly and welcoming group I have encountered. Just introduce yourself and that will begin a long and profitable relationship with a great bunch of people. If you have not gotten out to an event yet the Koffee Klatch is a great ice-breaker.
How about this for an interim idea: Lets meet at 7:30 or so at the Bean and Bagel and then drive up to Briar Creek in a group? Say next Saturday morning (2/2)?
Ralph Moore
Hurricane Region Secretary (like that means anything!)
Ralph, the purpose of setting one up in Cary/Apex wasn't so much for the drive (even though closer is better) but rather for the SPACE both inside and out. The suggestions put forth address that need for LOTS of space which is lacking at the current locale. Not only is it a social gathering but also a time we get to check out each others cars, etc and do so in one large parking location. Once again, not possible in the current locale.
LVDell is correct that we are outgrowing Carribou Coffee. This morning, Ray Munsch (who started the whole thing with a bunch of 928 guys and gals) checked with Camille's, also in Brier Creek, but with a larger and mostly unoccupied lot on Saturday mornings, and they are more than happy to have us. They have a brekfast menu for those who so desire. They are located in the Brier Creek shopping center near Uno's Pizza, for those familiar with the area. We plan to give them a try next Saturday (2/2). Please feel free to join us and reassess the situation.
Jerry
That's great news, Jerry. Ralph's idea sounds pretty good and I'm excited to drive 540 when there isn't any traffic. I'm still going to start my Saturday at the Bean & Bagel - I'm sure anyone who shows up at the Bean & Bagel will want to talk about Camille's.
Thanks again for your efforts and communication.
Bob
From an email sent to Hurricane Region members this morning:
The PCA Hurricane Region's Saturday morning KoffeeKlatch has grown now to the point of needing a larger facility with better, safer, more visible parking. We've seen close to 50 people and Porsches at times!
As you may know, we've been meeting at Caribou Coffee in the Brier Creek shopping center. (I-540 and US 70) Our NEW LOCATION will be in the same shopping center but will be moved to CAMILLE'S 'Sidewalk Cafe'. CAMILLE'S has a lot of parking right in front of their large windows so you can admire your car and make sure no minivans ding your paint. PLUS, there's a LOT of view-able parking to the side as well.
What's more, in addition to all of the 'foo-foo' coffee drinks that so many of us like, CAMILLE'S has a very nice breakfast menu that I'm sure will be a big PLUS!
To get to CAMILLE'S:
1. ENTER THE SHOPPING CENTER as if you were going to Caribou.
2. Go past Caribou's front door & TURN RIGHT at the four-way stop.
3. CAMILLE'S will be straight ahead on the RIGHT.
This Saturday morning, I'll be at the Bean & Bagel at 7:30 am - it's supposed to be partly cloudy and in the 60s. If anyone would like to meet there, I'd like to meet you and your 4-wheel friend. Also, let's talk about Camille's.
Bob
Is the plan to meet at B&B and then drive to Camille's or to start our own Cary/Apex gathering. I'm down for either one. I'll be driving the CAB in case the weather permits topless driving later in the day
Let's just meet and decide. I do think the Camille's solution is a good one and I always have a great time at the Koffee Klatch. It is a bit of a drive, but a great way to start off the weekend. This is particularly true if it is a 'honey do' weekend. Nice to be out and about at 7:30 am enjoying my car, particularly when the inclination is to lie in bed.
And according to the N&O today the Italian guys are going to be at Briar Creek tomorrow as well. Fun, once you get past the mirrored sunglasses, chesthair, and gold chains
Hi Guys, I have relatives in Cary. I have not been down in the P-car yet because of wife, dog & NJ food and gifts we always have to bring. Looking forward to eventually zipping down for a get together, also looking to possibly relocate there.
Take Care, Larry T
Damn, just rolled my **** out of bed. Rough night with the baby. I'll have to take a rain check for next week. Please post back how the location works out and if we want to make that a regular thing. Maybe a little later in the morning though?
Hey, Dell - I completely understand (I have 3 young boys who did the same thing when they were little). There were 5 of us at B&B this morning (Mike - Boxster, Ralph - 968, Kevin - 944, Randy - 996 aero, and me). We stayed until about 8:45 and then left for Brier Creek (see pictures below). It was a big Italian car event and a great turnout from the PCA.
As for B&B, the owners are Christina and Kit and they just bought the place a few months ago - that's why I'm at least going to start my Saturdays there. They're really great people and they're working hard to make their bage/coffee shop something special.
I look forward to seeing you soon!
Bob
After Bean and Bagel Kevin, Bob and I headed to Briar Creek and the new Camille's location. What a turnout! Amazing!
40+ Porsches from 356 Convertible Ds and vintage 911s to 997 GT3 RSs
At least 15 Ferraris including 308s, 355s, 360 and 430 Spyders
A bunch of Alfas
4 Shelby Cobras - some real and some replica
A Ford Gt with Saleen mods pushing over 700hp
A GT40 replica to die for!
Our own little Crystal Cove, right here in Raleigh!
They work if I'm online b/c they're links. I'll figure out another way to do it. In fact, let's see if this works. Here's a link to the photo album:
http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=...7&x=0&y=zi2g0i
It was an awesome turnout. I couldn't believe how many great cars showed up for this. By FAR, the largest gathering we've had a Briar Creek to date.
-Charles
I'm sorry we didn't have a chance to talk, Charles. You have a beautiful GT3. I took pictures, it was so stunning. It was a great event. Hope to see you in the future.
Bob
Charles swung by my place last January and we went and grabbed lunch. Imagine the attention you get from two identical GT3's parked side-by-side. See y'all the next time!
Briar Creek was great this morning!
20+ Porsches
GT3RS
57 Speedster in Ivory
9 928s (!)
Ridiculous 540 speed on the way home (almost afraid to post the number)
I think you guys should really consider the benefits of an extra 15 minute drive
Yeah, what moron would consider speeding on a completely empty stretch of brand new dry pavement with no traffic in sight for over a mile in either direction early on a Saturday morning.
Should have just set the cruise at 65.
Or maybe I should drive a Kia.
Dell - you are obviously a serious car guy with lots of track experience. But tell me that you don't get a little frisky once in a while...
Public roads? Not a chance. That's why I spend so much time on the track. I get that friskiness out of me. Sure I jump on the gas sometimes but maybe 75 or 80 but never do I hit triple digit speeds on the local pavement.
Maybe that's just me, but I find it asinine to hit those speeds and use the "it was clear" excuse.
Hey, Dell - You were right about the "symphony" that was your exhaust note as you pulled out of the parking lot. I can't imagine how great it must sound on the track. When Randy, Manil (sp?) and I pulled out later, we turned a lot of heads too. I was bringing up the rear and had the vantage point to see all the heads turn - what a blast. It was like a mini, 5 minute parade until we went our separate ways.
Great to see you!
Bob
It was fun and good seeing y'all as well. That GT3 exhaust note is a beast...quoting one of the car magazines..."It was an angry grizzly strapped to the rear bumper!!"
I don't mind driving to Brier Creek every now and then if everyone is up for it. It would be nice to check out the Gt3RS.
-Manil
Next time, we'll just meet at the usual and if everybody is up for it, we'll head north to Briar Creek.
Manil, the lip on the wheels is HUGE!!!!! Sweetness
Anyone attending the club dinner on Tuesday night? I'll be coming back from Greensboro that day, so I'm not sure yet.
Also, I just met a great guy with a '77 Targa Turbo (Black on Black) and invited him to the B&B this Sat. He lives very nearby.
Bob
You forgot to mention the MY02 996 GT2 in Speed Yellow that showed up at Briar Creek this past Saturday....
It also happens to be the same guy that owns the 57 Speedster and the MY07 GT3RS...
-Charles
Thanks, Charles. But, I wasn't at the Brier Creek gathering. I was in Apex at the Bean & Bagel. There were a few of us there who spoke very highly of your car.
I'll try to make it out to Brier Creek some time soon when I have a little more time to travel.
Bob
Cool, come on out. The GT2 was really cool. I think that's only the 2nd time I've seen a 996 GT2 in person. Pretty rare car, and this one was of course a spectacular example.
-Charles
This session is a follow-up to one we did last month. Under master Porsche engine builder Jimmy Ellison's tutelage, we are joining the functioning upper and lower assemblies from two blown 944 engines. Probably doing some other stuff too.
Mostly a fun chance to hang out in Jimmy's shop on Saturday morning.
Have fun at VIR, Dell. See you next week.
I can't spend the morning at European Perf., but wish I could - family commitments. I will be having my coffee and bagel tomorrow morning at 7:30 - hope y'all can make it.
I just stumbled on this thread........great idea moving the meetup place. I have been 4 or 5 times and it was just too cramped. Nice group of folks. I will try to drag my butt out of bed.
John (red 964)
I'd really like to meet you, John. But, this isn't a replacement for the Brier Creek KoffeeKlatch. That gathering has moved from Caribou Coffee to Camille's (over by Uno's, also in Brier Creek). More space and better parking.
The Bean & Bagel in Apex is really just a local group of Porsche owners who don't always have time to get to Brier Creek, but still want to get together with other owners/enthusiasts. We still attend PCA functions whenever possible. Brier Creek is a great social, but I just can't make it there each Saturday.
For our usual attendees who couldn't make it today, here's a quick update:
Randy (996-C2 Aero), Manil (C4S) and I (996-C2 Aero) were joined by Brad (Cayman S). My 10 yr old son was also there to enjoy the Porsches. We drove out together and headed up 64 so Randy and Brad could check out the Tech Session at European Performance. It was great to be in the line of 4 beautiful Porsches charging up the road.
I"ll be in San Francisco next week, but I hope everyone else will still get together either the Bean & Bagel or Brier Creek. I told Manil that we could meet at B&B when I get back and then head over to B&B in a group. Also, you may have seen on another thread that I'm hoping to set-up a weekend drive with some Knoxville owners.
Have a great week!
Bob
We're meeting at the B&B at 7:30 and convoying (is that a word?) over to Camille's by 8:30 for the PCA Koffeeklatch and another Italian Car Owners gathering. Manil, hope you can make it.
Bob
It's only Tuesday and I'm looking forward to this Saturday already. I hate to admit it, but the last weekend when the Italian cars joined us, it was really special. (The Italian cars are due back this weekend) Had to be 50 fine machines out there. Weather preview looks good. I have to go pick a car to clean.
Tom
I came by last weekend but I must have gotten there too late (8:30?) because there was nary a Porsche to be found. So I headed up to Brier Creek and saw all the pretty candy. Sorry I missed you guys.
I don't expect to come this weekend because I've gotta take a step kid to tutoring in the morning and...
and...
my new BMW 335 coupe has arrived!!
My poor M5 got totalled in January so I ordered the 335 and it finally came in last night, getting it this afternoon! That means no more using the 996 as my DD. Although it does really well at it, there are times that it's a bit impractical and sometimes I wish for a bit softer ride.
But maybe I'll bring the BMW up there so that all those Fazzaz guys can admire some proper German engineering.
Michael
Hey, Michael - I'm sorry we missed you. We left at 8:30. Sounds like it might rain on Saturday morning, in which case I won't be there either. So, congratulations on the 335 coupe. Maybe we'll see you the following weekend. Keep checking back on this thread.
Bob
Looks like the weather is clearing up tomorrow morning, just in time for some bagel and coffee. I'll be at the Bean & Bagel by 7:30. Come by before 10 am if you're available.
Bob
Dell - It would be great to have you there regardless off what you're driving. We like you for who you are! (and...what you drive...)
Manil - Have a great weekend in Wilmington. Hope to see you soon.
Bob
Just after I left, I pulled up behind a guy with a 2002 C2. He pulled into the Harris Teeter parking lot and I followed him to personally invite him. He seems like a nice guyl who was genuinely interested in visiting next Saturday.
Bob
Are you guys still meeting up? I'm back in the Porsche family again (2012 Pano S) and thought I might try to join you sometime.
Also, there is this:
