what's with the "keep it original" thing - he can pop back on the old one and be original in like 30 minutes --- change is good as long as you can "un-change"

I've found you need to loosen the hinges on the trunk and spread them to the widest "setting" to get the lid to squeeze in.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

29 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

all factory parts..... i had some time this fall and finally finshed. what do you think. I think it looks better than taco wing(996 gt3 wing)

POST 2Original post

Wow, that looks pretty good! Do the hydraulics work like on the TT?

POST 3Original post

Quotes source post: 9924701

I really like it, definitely better than a taco wing (but I've never been a fan of them anyway)! But, its all a personal preference (as long as you like it thats all that matters). jmo

POST 4Original post

Just as jdjones2010 say's, as long as you are happy with the way it looks all is good. I'm not a fan of changing stuff to make it look different. I want a car to be as original as possible and especially the 911. This said, I actually better like the original wing on the 996 C2/4 but again, its all in the eye of the beholder. Magnificent work you done btw. Can't see it is retro fitted at all

POST 5Original post

I like the look Nice wheels, really compliments the car.

POST 6Original post

what's with the "keep it original" thing - he can pop back on the old one and be original in like 30 minutes --- change is good as long as you can "un-change" do it work - (I hope)

Not me. I modify everyting I buy or owned. love doing it. iam making carbon fiber wing for it.

POST 11Original post

Nice work. Is that an OEM Porsche part? I only ask because the "lip" on the rear decklid underneath the spoiler (where it normally says "turbo") looks off to me. On the actual turbo cars, the lip lines up with the line that seperates the red from the clear lenses in the tail lights. Yours sits lower, and it doesn't really look like there's even room to put a badge on the rear decklid. Maybe it's just the angle in the photos, but it doesn't look right to me. Also - note the difference in the location of the 3rd brake light... Don't get me wrong, I think it looks great. That particular detail just strikes me as a bit odd. Here's a photo of a 996 turbo so you can see what I mean.

POST 12Original post

Wow, good eye Dennis. It certainly doesn't appear to be an oem part, but it looks great. Nicely done OP.

POST 13Original post

I thought C4/TT wings would not fit a narrow body? Does the wing come off the TT decklid and bolt to the narrowbody deck? EDIT: Ok now saw the "How-to" steps in the blog. Awesome thanks.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 9925874

yea all original... but 996 tt trunk is bigger than 996 c2 trunk. this turnk has been trim to fit.....

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 9925944

it is oem parts... people 996 tt trunk does not fit 996 c2.. I made this oem trunk to fit my c2... took 1 day of work... trim to fit. tt trunk is 2 inches longer and 1/2 inch wider...

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 9926026

I made it fit........ tt trunk is longer

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 9925341

Still doesn't change my view on the over all look of the car.

POST 18Original post

Did you have to do any modifications to the fan or air box I want to do the same conversion On a 2001 C2 I have a complete turbo decklid with fan brake light and wiring harness

POST 19Original post

I think that looks really good. So on a C4S would it be just a direct bolt on and plug?

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 9954208

no i just replaced with k&n cold air intake. stock air box was removed.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 9955034

i dont know about c4.. but on c2 with some trim to fit.. yes direct fit with 4 bolts and stock plugs....

POST 22Original post

Did you use the fan from the C2 or from the twin turbo Also did you have to modify the latch.?

POST 23Original post

How did you cut the sides and the bottom: what type of tool? Also, did you move the base for the latch, if so how? Any pics of the inside of the cut areas? I am in the process of doing the same mod's. Thanks for any help!

POST 25Original post

familycar911, how did you get this to fit? I have a 1999 and I also have a perfect turboS wing, and I would love to fit it to my car. Can you maybe email me what you did? [email removed] . Thanks! BTW amazing job, looks perfect

POST 26Original post

I'm just curious how you got around some of the mounting issues, if you don't mind I'd like to pick your brain as to how you did it. Thanks again. [email removed]

POST 27Original post

Check out his blog it shows much of what he did. http://996trunk.blogspot.com/

POST 28Original post

That post is fantastic, my only question would be where did he relocate the latch striker to?

POST 29Original post

BTW his report of 8 hours of work may be on the low side. I'm in the process of fitting the wing also. I've found you need to loosen the hinges on the trunk and spread them to the widest "setting" to get the lid to squeeze in. Also thinking of elongating the holes on the hinges to have the decklid sit higher on the back of the mounting area. I haven't gotten to the latch striker but I bought a set of metal brackets to attempt to relocate the latch striker, bolting off an existing piece on the lower lid. I've also fabbed brackets to bolt under the spoiler area. I don't plan to install the K&N in order to get the full hydraulic system to fit. Posted my K&N for sale. I spent a full day working the lid and still only about 80% done.
