Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

997 xenon only changed for stying purpose and not for functional reason.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm pretty certain that it's bi-xenons or nothing.
Does the car you are looking at have a round silver disk over the headlamp - this is the washer which is a sign that the car has bi-xenons.
Rob
Nope, doesn't have the washer. I was hoping that the 2002+ 996's all came with Xenons, with Bi-Xenons an option like other car companies. Too bad we can't retrofit either
Can anyone tell me if the non-Xenons project a white light, or a yellow light? Can I change the bulb to a whiter bulb? Thanks!
You can retrofit OEM Xenon into the car, they are sold on eBay for about $900-1k. A new set from Sunset, suncoast dealers are about $1300 I believe. You can also switch light bulb to PIAA but it won't be as good as real xenon and probly not better than std bulbs. Having xenon for the first time on my 996, I am a believer that this is a must have. I'd recommend switching yours to xenon. Why would someone spend $$$ on a C4S and not get the xenon is beyond me. Most C4S buyers spend the extra $$ for the turbo widebody look and xenon is 1/2 for looks and 1/2 for better visibility IMO>
No, you have halogen bulbs. The light from the halogens is very white, xenons have a slight bluish cast to them. Fake ricer xenons sometimes look very blue.
I think the newer lighting systems in cars absolutely suck. This has been made worse by xenon bulbs, which are very bright, necessitating very sharp cut-offs to the left and top. What this means is that you have very good lighting directly ahead, but can't see squat to the side or above the cut-off. When driving down a dip or gully, you have no light at all to illuminate where you're going uphill.
I have xenons on two cars, and halogens on the others. I'd save my money until the systems are improved to provide light outside the "cone". This is what the new adaptive headlight systems offered by BMW and others are all about--trying to make up for the lack of peripheral lighting from their xenon systems.
Thanks everyone for your input.
I guess it was because in order to get Bi-Xenon's in '02, the buyer would have to get it with the Bose system, which would end up costing $3000+. But he did get the Sports Exhaust
I guess its a decent trade off.
I think I won't let the Xenon bother me too much, since I've never owned a car with Xenon's before anyways.
Thanks again!
I actually think Xenon are more dispersed lighting than halogen. I think it's easier on the eye to drive at night compared to halogen. Plus, it just looks better.
If you are happy with halogen, then no need to change it. My mom's E class halogen are very bright due to the big oval light housing.
02+ xenon are pretty much the latest technology. 997 xenon only changed for stying purpose and not for functional reason. Adaptive lights are nice if you do curves at night more but I don't have hands on experience with it.
topday.....those are exactly what others were refrring to as rice blue lights. Besides the website referral (which I am sure is yours) is for bulbs that are way overpriced that you can pick up for much less at a local auto parts store. Come on, $65 for fake blue fog lights or drving lights is insane. The ONLY way to have true xenon lighting is to purchase the xenon lights themn selves, not these cheap bulbs that CANNOT project the light in the same way. You are selling color not lighting.
I had PIAA in my old car and it was much better than stock. True, not Xenon but still better and worth $75. I am not sure how good the stock bulbs are on Porsche but if they aren't good and you are keen on xenon, get a new set of bulbs that are name brand. Just don't use overly high watt bulbs that will burn out quickly.
