Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

He reconnected the wire with a new crimp and tested the car - everything is in tip top shape - AC blows cold again!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

First hot day - just noticed the AC doesn't blow cold anymore. Diagnostic steps I tooK: 1. Snowflake icon is on 2. Fuse E7 is ok (as are all others) 3. I cycle the snow flake button on and off and I cannot hear or feel any difference to engine draw or hear the familiar AC compressor 'click'. Thoughts on what you guys think might be wrong?

POST 2Original post

Loss of refrigerant is a big possibility. A weak point is the 2 x condensers mounted in front of the coolant radiators. If these aren't cleaned out periodically, they tend to rot and the refrige gas escapes....

Ok...so if I just add refrigerant do you think I'll be all set?

POST 4Original post

Not if your condensers are shot. I'd pull the front bumper for a look see.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I took it to my indy this morning and he attempted to go after recharging refrigerant, pulling out condensor, etc. I decided to just drive to my local Herb Chambers Boston dealership. Something told me that I should probably just let my favorite tech deal with it. He plugged in the Porsche diagnostic, and determined my compressor was not coming on at all, even though all fuses checked out fine - and ruled out the refrigerant or condensers as the issues altogether. He also said that in the 10 years he's been servicing 996's he's never seen the compressor fail, so he really didn't think that the compressor itself had gone bad so he decided to keep things simple and check the wiring first and this is what he found - the single power wire to the compressor was simply disconnected - the connector had corroded where it crimps and it just wasn't getting any power. While I was there I asked them to clear out the leaves from the front radiator, and clean out all the drain holes He reconnected the wire with a new crimp and tested the car - everything is in tip top shape - AC blows cold again! and while I was there I got to check out the 997 GT2 RS - yes, this is what $299,000 buys you:
