So, it doesn't make a lot of sense to replace the H7 high-beams since you'll only have them on for 10 seconds or so -- not long enough for them to warm up and get the color match.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello All!
Looking for after-market h7 bulb recs to match my 99 carrera c2'ws low beam litronic bulbs for light output an color....
has anyone experimented, purchased and intalled these?
how difficult is it to do (install)?
TIA!
A couple of things to keep in mind:
First, any of the aftermarket "cool blue" or "HID-look" halogen bulbs take about a minute or so to warm up and look white (they start off yellow). So, it doesn't make a lot of sense to replace the H7 high-beams since you'll only have them on for 10 seconds or so -- not long enough for them to warm up and get the color match. If you routinely run with the fog lights though, then you may want to replace them.
Second, some aftermarket bulbs run at 75W or even 85W in order to increase the light output -- more power means more heat and more heat can melt the plastic lens housing. Running higher wattage bulbs may also require you to change out the stock wiring harness. Stick with 55W bulbs.
Finally, make sure you get high quality aftermarket bulbs made of UV-cut quartz glass. Not having UV-cut quartz glass will cause your lens covers to discolor (turn yellowish).
Okay, so now what? Well, if you still want to get aftermarket bulbs, check out the Osram/Sylvania Silverstar or Philips BlueVision. Both of these are very high quality (Osram and Philips both make OEM bulbs). They're very close to the factory Xenon in color (after they warm up). An even closer match is the Hoen Xenonmatch bulb -- however, it's my experience that these burn out quicker than the Osram and Philips bulbs.
Installing the bulbs is pretty easy. Just check your owner's manual on how to replace bulbs.
Good luck.
Not even close to an exact match. You CANNOT replicate the xenon projector exaclty. Close, but not a chance. Besides, the bulbs that are currently in the fog location are yellow for a reason and not blue. The illuminate better up close where the foglight is designed for. But if you wanted mismatched blue rice looking lights, then more power to ya.
i have decided not to go with these
i have concerns about overrunning the wiring and also the bulbs could run too hot
thanks for all of your input
it was very helpful!
i've had PIAA 8000K Japanese headlight bulbs and foglight bulbs in my porsche for 1 1/2 years with no problems.. i run them both at the same time, as they make a nice looking match.. so 16,000k in bulbs running at once :> actually next to 6000k HID kits, they actually look more like HID than the 6000k true HIDs.. looks VERY bright from the outside, but visibility from the inside of the car isn't very good at all.. I don't really need lighting as I live in the city, but if you live in rural ville without lighting, HID is always best...
but if one is concerned about burning the electrical of the car with 6000k, as said i've had 8000k bulbs on headlights and foglights running for 1 1/2 years, and no probs.. no burnouts either.. (haven't seen any higher than 8000k output.. which is a hell of alot of output for a bulb..) ironically, the electrical system on my car has been the only thing that HAS been perfect since I installed these bulbs <g> (knock on wood)
