Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

the porsche i bought had some serious issues, but now that everything has literally been replaced but the drivetrain, it drives like a dream..

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've been seeing 996's on ebay and autotrader for less than $30k. I actually saw a '99 C2 for $24,999.
Are 996's really going down in price this fast?
This is almost worthy of selling my 951!
I bought my 99 with around 45K miles on it for less than 30K at the beginning of this year. It's fairly light on options but did already have a nice set of aftermarket headers and exhaust on it. I had to work on the deal for a while but yeah 996 prices have dropped a lot. If you're willing to compromise a little on options and the year you can get some excellent deals on 99-00 996s. And they're still great cars - I love mine. I sold a 951 and a Boxster S to make room for my 996 with no real regrets (though I do occassionally miss the rush of the turbo).
All depends on what condition of 996 you want. Just ask Bob about his dirt cheap 996 he bought from a Ford dealer that supposedly blew up 3 times and cost him darn near $50k in repairs. CAVEAT EMPTOR.
i'm here lurking..
enjoying my sl55 too much.. :P another pic of my new baby..
i still have the porsche though..
driven about 4000 miles on the sl and absolutely no probs.. 1100 miles on the porsche and $47,000 in repairs.. for anyone considering a 996 with 90k miles on it.. just because it's $25k.. do yourself a favor, run.. i think it's too early to tell the reliability on these cars in mass when they hit the 100k+ mile range.. and repairs can get very costly.. trust me, i know
of course, go figure, after I get everything replaced and get the warranty the porsche hasn't had a single issue.. but then again i don't think there is anything else i could have replaced..
thanks rss.. i didn't cheap out on this car (i learned from the porsche
).. brabus/lorinser all the way.. was going to kit it out with a brabus kit, but decided to just leave it alone, as these cars are rare enough up here that it's not necessary.. unlike 996s/986s that i run into 10-15 a day. where you pretty much have to fix them up to be a lil different...
..i think it's clean enough the way it is... just added a lorinser rear spoiler, lorinser front clear bumper guards, brabus wheels, removed all the badging lowered and DONE.. clean, and looks like a $40k car to most non-car people.. it's nice to have something that doesn't attract too much attention.. the porsche with the fabspeed muffler bypass is this cars polar opposite :>
i'm done spending money on cars.. have to start saving for gas money now.. <g> atleast until 2006
Okay everyone, so here's where I'm at. Hopefully, you can help me in answering some of these questions. I have a '86 951, very lightly modded to only 200rwhp. I'm ready to sell, and move on to a more serious and newer machine.
I had been considering a 993 n/a but it seems like prices in the 996's are very low. I would definitily like to spend less than 30k but I KNOW NOTHING about 996's, and their various option packages, performance upgrades, and features. The extent of my knoweledge is that there are C2's, C2S's, C4's, C4S's, Turbo's, TurboS's, GT3's and GT2's.
I have pretty much come to terms that for less than 30k I would only be able to get a basic, bottom of the line C2, however, I don't know what to look for as far as options, features, or upgrades. I'd want as much bang for the buck as far as performance, handling and horsepower, but dont know where and what to look for. I seriously doubt any of these will have the thurst and pull of my 951, but perhaps I'm wrong. What options are a MUST HAVE for this car? What will give me the best performance upgrade for the least amount of money?
Please keep in mind, I am a college student, and money doesn't grow on trees, but I have some savings. I had a '84 944, now it's the '86 951. The next logical step would be to go to the 968, but I think I'm ready to take a bigger step!
You guys are the experts, please tell me how it is, I'm all ears! Thanks!!
Hi Bob...
She is a beauty...best of luck with her. I think you have had the most interesting repair and problem history of any car owner I have ever 'met'...enjoy your new ride!
thanks jim, i'm enjoying her :> and she costs less than any woman i've known to maintain.. <g>
and for munro, which seems to criticize everything i have to say, i have no idea what you are talking about.. i'm not in denial of anything.. the porsche i bought had some serious issues, but now that everything has literally been replaced but the drivetrain, it drives like a dream..
