Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use alan wrench' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'best place' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check whether you have the hardtop kit installed' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

BTW, your local Craigslist is probably the best place to find the hardtop.

Suggestion
As kromdom mentions, you should check whether you have the hardtop kit installed.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Looking for a hard top for my 2001 996 Artic Silver which years would fit, what should be included for the install and whats a fair price to pay.And how easy is it to install if I take the car to pick it up and install it to drive it back.
Check if your car already has the hardtop kit installed. If yes, average price is around $500 (good shapee, no major blems) for the hardtop and you simply lower your top, put the hardtop on and drive away. Tops for 99-04 are the same. NOTE: make sure the top you get has the matching mounting pins for your car. Also, the hardtop will have several pieces that are NOT cheap if seller does not have them.
if your car has the hardtop delete option, then read this:

I picked up a hardtop last month for my C4S cab. As kromdom mentions, you should check whether you have the hardtop kit installed. I think that the 2001's should - but you should verify it anyway. If not, you should pick up the hardtop upgrade kit from the dealer (should be around $300).
Also, you should ensure that the mounts on the hardtop match the kit on the car. The newer type are the screw-type, the older ones are the bayonet mount. If they are different, you should look at the upgrade kit as it comes with the screw-type mount as well as the receptacle. The upgrade kit should take you an hour or so to install it - it took me about 90mins and I'm not mechanically inclined.
One note for you: when buying the hardtop, make sure that it has all the trim pieces (5) with it. If not, then each of trim pieces will cost you between $75-100 which will add about $400 to your bottom line.
BTW, here's a link to my install saga from last month:

Sunset in Oregon has one in silver that they have been trying to sell for a while. It is currently overpriced at $900, but I bet you could low ball them and get it cheaper. I don't know which silver it is...
BTW, your local Craigslist is probably the best place to find the hardtop. They tend to be cheaper than most parts departments as well as the fact that shipping charges tend to be high given the size of the hardtop.
Having said that, the OP is based in TX. Do you really need a hardtop?
Another option if you can't get a silver one with the correct fittings for aound 5 to $700 is a black one if the price and fittings are right.. After all, the soft top is black and that matches the car perfectly. Hard tops cannot be handled by one person so you will need a hoist attached to the garage ceiling directly above the car. Two people could in fact walk the top from the rear and tilt the front into the top of the windscreen. Then it just a matter of securing the 2 rear pins with a half turn then securing the middle clip at the front. . I use an alan wrench with mine. Artic Silver Cabs were the most common of all in the USA.. So you should have no trouble finding one. Mine is Atric Silver but I am not selling it. It came with the car.
Good heavens to murgatroid jump in there. You wont get a better deal than that artic silver one. Let us know did you get it in time. That wont last long at that price and that condition.
To my reckoningfrom what I read, the top weighs approx 90lb. Distance 735 miles. Truck delivary approx. $200 and you still have a great deal at $700 total. The owner can snap a shot of the rear attachment to see if it fits yours. Good luck and let us know the results.
I too am curious as to why you want a hardtop in Texas. I took mine off as soon as I got it home and it's been sitting in storage ever since.
I have no plans to use it, but it came with the car. There are much more useful upgrades to spend your money on IMO.
