Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

My mechanic would suggest if it absolutely has to be a 996, get a 3.6, 2002 and up models, and ln engineering crankshaft mod is recommended too.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Generation: 20261026T122219Z · outcome-qualification-6. Deterministic extraction; no AI model inference. How we use sources

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello- I am considering buying a 996 coupe for my wife that I could occassionally borrow for DE days. I curently have a 94 968 and 87 Targa. Any particular years to watch out for or issues to be aware of. I will have a PPI done but would like to avoid any obvious issues. Thanks in advance. Tim

POST 2Original post

According to excellence magazine, I believe they said avoid the 99 model, and. My mechanic would suggest if it absolutely has to be a 996, get a 3.6, 2002 and up models, and ln engineering crankshaft mod is recommended too.

POST 3Original post

Rather than yell at you to use search... And please don't anyone else do that as it is so tired... I suggest that you fully read the RMS and IMS questions Admin threat at the top of the 996 page.

POST 4Original post

No yelling, but do a search on 996 buying guide.

POST 9Original post

Well - I went through this a year ago - my conclusions - i) Get an '02 or newer (assuming budget allows) ii) Very low milage is bad - and I would not buy very high miles either - 5K-6K/yr av is good iii) Make sure it has service history and get PPI from Porsche specialist independent mechanic iv) IMS failure can be very expensive issue - LNE upgrade is cheap insurance - especially if you are going to do clutch anyway - but plenty of cars are running fine without it - I would be especially worried about long periods of storage (i.e. low miles) v) Budget for tires/repairs and enjoy driving - but these cars can be run at reasonable $$ - esp given the level of performance.

That's a good list. I would add learning about options available on the year range you look for. Stuff like full leather and PSM don't add a lot to resale value but are nice to get.
