Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Install unit in my 2000 cab' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is '9mph requirement' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install unit in my 2000 cab' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
I have noticed that it is probably the 9mph requirement that the car has set for "as moving" when you have something like the autolock feature set (when the doors auto lock when you hit 9mph).

I just politely asked the next time I was in for service if they could set my locks to autolock (there are 3 settings listed in the manual you can request) as well as the passenger mirror change to tilt down in reverse.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just installed the unit in my 2000 cab. The top closed one touch but when I went to open it back up it had to be manually held down to open up and the same for closing.
It works the same as before I installed it?
What gives?
ANy Ideas?
Tracy
Some ideas...First it can work one-touch if you are stopped just hold the button for 3 seconds (if it is open hold the open side for 3 seconds, if closed hold the closed side) then 1 touch. It is possible that the connection is not good. Did you install the strap that holds it in place. I recommend you do this.

If you hold the open side with it closed the roof will start to open...If you hole the open side with it open for 3 seconds it will let you use the one-touch!
Ok Guys, it's all working fine now. It's weird, it would only work one touch close but not open? Now after driving the car a bit it works fine. Thanks all for the help. The smart top is really cool and well worth the money.
Thanks Again.
Tracy
I just installed it, but my one-touch doesn't seem to be working (while moving). I need to keep trying, perhaps it is user error, but not sure how I could screw this up. It now works while rolling, and the small rear side windows work, so the module is having some effect, but....
Is it just a quick push of the button for one-touch or do you need to hold it down for a second or two? Any other settings required to make it work?
Thanks in advance...
It is just a quick touch of the button. If you hold it any longer you will loose the one-touch effect. Hit the button once and be patient for 2 seconds.
Hi,
we found out that on some 996s you have to be going more than 8-10mph for the one touch to work. That is because the original Porsche electronics seems to cut-off the speed signal below that. So the smartTOP has no means of "knowing" that you're moving at all. Please try to go 15 mph and then it's just a short tap on the button. And, yes, please be patient for about 2 sec after tapping the button. It takes a while for the top mechanism to get going.
If there's anything we can help you with, please contact us via our website

Thanks all.
I will try it in that speed range. I think it would have been nice to know about these "exceptions" to the advertised operations.
Also, I get some sort of "out of limit" warning when operating it while moving. Is that normal?

Has to be set by the PST2 at the dealer. I just asked my service guy to activate that feature since it is something they are supposed to do GRATIS when you take delivery as stated int he manual. I just politely asked the next time I was in for service if they could set my locks to autolock (there are 3 settings listed in the manual you can request) as well as the passenger mirror change to tilt down in reverse. Of course, my service guy said no problem without a charge. Just make sure you phrase it as the manual states the dealer will set for you so you don't get charged. If they want to charge you then say sure, I'll pay you 5 minutes of work which comes to about $10!!!
