Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Install lot of ims kits' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check oil sump' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Have you been checking your oil sump for debris when doing oil changes?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Have oil leak from back of 2001 C2 3.4. Pretty sure it is RMS. Have 80k miles on it. Had a Pelican IMS bearing upgrade kit at 40k. Oil spots are about 4-5" if it sits for several hours (5-6). Should I bite the bullet and just get the seal replaced and install a LNE ceramic IMS bearing? How long can I let the oil leak go? This is my daily driver and closest Porsche shop is 5 hours away so it would be kind of a pain to drive to the shop and leave the car for a few days. I could turn it into a mini vacation or something.
That sounds pretty serious. Did it show up all at once? Recent oil change?
A Hertz monthly rental costs much less than an LN retrofit part. If you need to get it fixed, rent a car.
Make sure the oil isn't overfilled.
It started out small and has progressively got worse over the last year. I think it is time to give the shop a call and set up an appointment. Wonder if the Porsche dealer would provide a loaner?
none that have worked on a Porsche. There is one guy close by but he is usually backed up for weeks. He works on MB, BMW, and Porsche SUVs mostly. He is knowledgeable on air cooled 911s. I would trust him to do the work, but doubt he has IMS bearing install tools. There are probably 5 996 cars in a 100 mile radius of me. I know almost all of the owners. Easy to find someone to work on a Chevy Silverado or F150. Porsche of Colorado Springs is the closest dealer to me. I know they have installed a lot of IMS kits. They did the 1st one in my car and I provided the kit.
Sure its not spark plug tubes? I did mine last weekend and I was surprised how easy the job went.
I've done RMS/IMS myself and its much longer, depending on how long it takes to get the transmission out.
oil is coming from back center of engine. Is there any real issue with leaving it until it needs a clutch? It might get bad enough that it will affect the clutch performance, but it hasn't been an issue yet. Would love to just do the RMS, IMS bearing, clutch all at once.
In my experience, it takes a pretty profound leak from the RMS to foul a clutch. If you're going with the IMS Solution anyway, you could drill a relief hole where the oil line will pass through.
I'm not recommending that. Over time, you're dumping a lot of oil that ends up in runoff, or putting down a motocyclist next time it rains a little, or building up and being a fire hazard.
I've driven with a gross leaker in the past, so I'm not judging, but I would suggest fixing it sooner than later. If nothing else for the enjoyment of driving.
All that aside, that is where many different leaks drip from so I would clean it up and give it the old hairy eyeball before jumping in.
It would royally suck to do all that work and get the car back with the same leak.
I'll just make a few general points, as your description of the leak(s) is so general.
1) How many miles on the car now, and why are you "pretty sure that it's the RMS"?
2) I would never recommend bringing a car to a shop without knowing (or at the very least having a very strong hunch) where the leak is originating.
3) Clean the bottom of the engine (brake cleaner, carb/choke cleaner etc.) and the floor where the car is going to sit. This way you'll be able to pin point the leak(s). If you don't want the oil on the floor a large piece of cardboard works wonders.
4) If it's really leaking that much oil (you don't mention how much it uses when you drive it) it's a good idea to get it fixed sooner rather than later - no, don't wait until the clutch needs to be replaced...
5) Who did the Pelican IMSB replacement at 40k, and have you called/spoken to them? Did they "qualify" the motor for an IMSB replacement before doing it? Have you been checking your oil sump for debris when doing oil changes? etc...etc...etc...
