I have no idea how some guy could just look at your car and say "you have the wrong spring rate" without climbing up into the wheel well and checking the springs.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2001 Turbo that came with HR lowering springs. This weekend at a local Cars and Coffee, a well known driver, and shop ower in the area mentioned that the HR springs were the incorrect spring rates for my car. He mentioned using Ebiach or agreed with my suggestion of going back to OEM/ Stock springs to correct it. Im trying to keep the car stock, and he said on the track even the stock spring set up would be faster then the HR springs on it. Can anyone provide some advice on this spring rate issue he speak of? Whats the effect of it? Thanks, somewhat new to the forums. Steve

POST 2Original post

Quotes source post: 15007107

Unless he got his head up in the wheel well somehow and noticed that the springs had the wrong #s for the turbo (the turbo, c4 and c4s share the same springs), Id say he was yanking your chain...

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks @dporto, I thick he is an accomplished driver with a successful aftermarket business and uses his sales skills to fund both! Do you know if the height can be adjusted on the HR springs? The car looks too slammed for my taste.

POST 4Original post

I wonder how many of his sales are closed through throwing out disparaging remarks about other peoples cars? The car you see in my Avatar is a '99 C4 with H&R sport springs and Bilstien B8 struts/shocks. Does it look "slammed" to you? I got about a 1" drop with the H&R's /B8's. It doesn't look slammed IMO, but you know what they say about opinions. It's certainly possible that your car has springs that were designed for a C2 (which has a lighter chassis than the awd turbo, C4, and C4s). Listen, I don't know the whole backstory and the conversation you had with him. I just find it self serving and somewhat laughable that the guy just looked at your car and told you the spring rates were wrong... Whatever you wind up deciding, good luck with it

POST 5Original post

Springs determine the height of the car because the weight of the car is resting on the springs. Spring rate is how quickly it will compress and rebound. Shocks dampen the oscillation of the springs during compression and rebound. I have no idea how some guy could just look at your car and say "you have the wrong spring rate" without climbing up into the wheel well and checking the springs. Ohh...I see. He was stating an opinion- " a well known driver, and shop owner in the area mentioned that the HR springs were the incorrect spring rates for my car." On that one you many have to do some research on what HR springs belong on a 2001 Porsche Turbo. Start here - http://www.hrsprings.com/application...s/31/552/2000/

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I agree with you @dporto, I think he goes to Cars and Coffee to find his prospects to send to his shop. I think you car looks perfect, it is more raised then my current car and I want it to look like yours. I called another independent shop and asked them if they could rais the height on my HR springs a bit and they said they will have to see if there is an adjustment but saud it should be pretty easy to do. My apt is next week so will let you know what they find. Im running HR lowering springs on OEM stock Shocks. @DBJOE996 yes it was a opinion but he really said it like it was a certainty. Like my car looks boy racer and it is all wrong as far as set up. Thanks for the contributions here. Steve
