Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use peak' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check on the invoice (was done at the workshop)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I would have to check on the invoice (was done at the workshop), but I remember the price was around 40$ per bottle

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It goes against my grain to pay Porsche prices for coolant.
But which non-OEM coolant is considered best? Clearly, it should be the pink flavor (OAT). Are all brands of this equivalent, or is one superior?
I felt the same way in doing a water pump change. Based on the reported results on an experienced Rennlister, Dharn, who rehabbed an engine with head-crack intermix & refilled with a non-OEM sort & reading this:
http://www.pedrosgarage.com/Site_5/C...ntifreeze.html
, I opted to use one of those pictured. Years later no issues whatsoever.
Since I had my intermix in 2008 and got the car back on the road in 2009 I have been running g Peak. 10 years and 50,000 miles and no problems with the hoses or plastic fittings or anything else related to the cooling system. You can always pay the Porsche Tax or the German Tax if you want to but I don’t.
Of course Porsche said it was “Lifetime” coolant when my car was made so if you believe that then there is no tax. I change my coolant every 2-3 years.
A while back I bought 2 gallons of porsche oem coolant from suncoast for around $80. From what I remember, the pentosin/pentofrost SF and other non-OEM coolants were in the same ballpark (maybe $10-15 difference for 2 gallons) when I was looking so it wasn't a _huge_ markup.
Currently using the Porsche factory fill recipe for cup cars.
As I recall 1 gal. factory coolant ($55) and the rest distilled water.
Just watch those garage temps in the winter!
I top off or change all my cars with Prestone universal. BMW, GM, Audi, Porsche, Subaru, Jeep. Years and hundreds of thousand miles and no issues.
Actually I have looked for posts saying that the wrong coolant caused problems and I have not seen one in years.
Same, picked up Porsche coolant from the dealer when I did my refresh because pricing was inline with any other. Not lifetime, but given I plan to keep what I put in there for a couple years, the cost difference wasnt worth going to anything else.
My five cents
I have just flushed all coolant and filled up with Porsche OEM and it has been around 80$ (2 bottles)
Given the actual coolants available on the market, I would never mix water direct on the cooling system...
I just bought regular coolant that has the correct ratings/grades/classification. Still don't understand why 996 would need special coolant. Does 996 use a special rubber that will melt with "normal" coolant? Is the aluminum in the 996 different from all the other aluminium engines? Etc etc etc.
My info says that the cooling system total capacity is 22.5 liters, which equals 5.94 gallons. Using the standard 50-50 mix, you'd thus need just shy of 3 gallon-size bottles.
I guess it depends on what you consider huge.
Your link lists a Genuine Porsche price of $37.70 / gal. Local prices for ordinary OAT coolant are around $15 / gal.
That's a markup of 2.5 times. To put it another way, the "Porsche tax" adds 151% to the cost.
The cost to fill the entire system (3 gal of coolant) would be $113 vs $45. The $68 difference (not much on the Porsche scale of costs) would probably be well worth paying if it actually yielded some measurable improvement.
All the equivalent coolant I saw before are similarly priced definitely much higher than $15/gal range. Any links to the said coolant? We need to make sure we are comparing apples to apples.

OAT coolant will work. I used Peak for my last fill. Just note that it already comes premixed.

The difference in cost is of little consequence to me. I'd rather use something I can easily purchase on the same day if need be and not wait a day or two for shipping or drive to a dealership.
I can get Pentofrost SF at several local and chain auto parts stores in my relatively rural part of the country. Id be surprised if it is terribly hard to get other places in the us.
