For example, just yesterday I saw a discussion about using VW coolant which is the same as Porsche at 50% the cost.

Back in my Mustang days, there was a cross reference of parts for Mustangs from other Ford cars. Occasionally, on this forum I see reference to other VW/Audi parts that are the same as Porsche parts for the 996. Any formal reference or should a sticky be created and people can just post their findings? For example, just yesterday I saw a discussion about using VW coolant which is the same as Porsche at 50% the cost. Obviously my interest is to save money. But, the closest Porsche dealer is 20 miles. Closest VW and different Audi dealer is less than 2 miles.

ignition switch is one that I have heard is interchangeable with the audi one at much lower cost. There is an early and late version. good idea.

Totally agree! This being said, it's almost like pulling teeth trying to figure cross references out - I'm sure Porsche wants it/likes it this way. I'm not sure how many "criticaI" (engine/tranny parts) parts cross over, but I know there are things like electrical connectors and such that are definitely shared. There are some of these that are even shared with Mercedes and BMW...
