Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

But the colour can be changed from white to green, blie, orange, red or purple.
Leading evidence: 'Replace from white' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace colour' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I got the LED in the footwell switch to change colour with the other LEDs as I toggle through the colours.

Ahh nice, I'm on board for additional lighting not so much for the ability to change colours.

We will use the 2002 foot well switch to make it look OEM.

At least I can use bits from old dash harnesses from previous projects.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My wife doesn't think much of my Mustangs, but she did like the ambient lighting option hey had.
I'm sure you have seen this in over cars. Foot well lighting , lighting on the cup holders and door pockets or handles etc....
Now when I bought my 06 GT, it did not come with ambient lighting. That was an option on the 2007 models. But I thought it was cool and wanted to retrofit it, which I did.

And now I will install this same system into my wife's 996.
Because the ambient lighting system in the 2007 - 2009 Mustang is not an integrated system, then this will be easy. And parts are cheap now from a wrecker.
Just bought a center console with the control module and button, cup holder lights and less for $100.
this will be a how to for those that want to add some features to their interior.
We already changed out the lights from amber to blue.
these will be in addition. 1 for each footwell, 1 each for the rear passenger areas, centre console and door pockets.
We will use the 2002 foot well switch to make it look OEM.
Looking at the schematic for the foot well switch, it won't work with the control module and illuminate the button, but the rear wiper switch will work.
just ordered one off eBay. Will take the foot well button cover and use it on the rear wiper body. But the round clear window that indicates the device is active won't work, obviously. But I have an idea. Will have to wait for the wiper button to arrive. I the mean time I'll make the harness, which will be the same as with the Ford.
Sounds like an interesting project. Pics after installation would be good. I don't drive at night much anymore, but I do like the LED ambient lighting in my wife's Mini Cooper. Pretty cool that you can hit the button and cycle through all the different colors.
The 996 feels very dated when it comes to interior lighting. I read your Mustang thread -- looked thorough. Looking forward to seeing your progress.
I like it dark at night. In fact, I love the old Saab "night panel' feature that darkens nearly everything in the cabin. But when you need light, it's nice to have! I think I would tackle a project like this keyed off a switch or the door.
If I lived in Edmondton, I'd be retrofitting a gasoline heater.
This is what you would need to do this:
lamp covers (need 4 or more depending on what you want to do) - 7S4Z 13E701 AE (black color)
jumper wire (need 2 - contains the LEDs) for the front - 8R3Z 14A411 B
Jumper wire for the back (contains the LEDs) - 8R3Z 14A411 C
module to control lights - 7S43 13E702 AA
clear ring for cup holder (contains the LEDs and harness) - 8R3Z 14A318 AA
4 pin female connector - wpt222 led lights can get pigtail connectors here -

You will need to make your own harness to go from the console to the front footwells. I'll give instructions on this probably tonight. Wiring this up will be no different than in the 05 - 09 Mustang, except that I need where to get power from.
Stupid question, wouldn't it be better to key it off the current existing instrument panel dash lights - this way you can dim the lights to match the Instrument panel brightness?
I know nothing so forgive me.
Nice, if you want to go really OEM get yourself some 9mm wide TESA cloth tape its the OEM tape for electrical wire wrapping.
May be of no interest to you though!!
I'm always happy to take suggestions. I may consider wiring it to the dimmer, now that I have all the wiring diagrams.
I am waiting for connectors and the jumper wires with the LEDS so I am now waiting.
Hi jim010,
I like the idea of the footwell lighting. Excuse my electrical ignorance but if you were to tap it into the dimmer switch, would the footwell lights stay on when the car lights are on? I would prefer them to dim out on their own after a certain time once both doors are closed. This is just my preference.
After looking through the Porsche wiring diagrams, I can't even find the wiring for the dimmer switch. So I don't know if I can wore it up that way.
I may just go simple and do it the way I did it before. I'll keep looking.
building the harness today. At least I can use bits from old dash harnesses from previous projects.
Thank you for that!
the circuitry for the foot well button is what made me realize that I can't use it. But the rear wiper switch is perfect. So I will just swap the covers between the 2 buttons.
Thanks to fpb111, I now know where to get my switched power from. The lights are normally on a 10 amp fuse, but there is no 10 amp in the 996. Tested it on 7.5 amp, and that is sufficient. Maybe I'll stick a relay in there, but it didn't blow when I tested it.

I got the foot well switch modified to work as a single switch. The module and the lights work. I have a video showing it working but can't seem to upload it.
just waiting on a couple more parts and I can finish this project.

new video. I got the LED in the footwell switch to change colour with the other LEDs as I toggle through the colours. I had to hack the crap out of the switch to make this work. But I am pleased that I got it to work.
