From the research I've done, it looks like the seat has an air filled bag for this function so my guess is that it has failed or has a leak.

Suggestion

Definitely check the fuse, I believe its E2 (check the manual) because I was fooled by the "click" too, I figured if it were clicking there was power.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The lumbar adjustment in my seat has stopped working. From the research I've done, it looks like the seat has an air filled bag for this function so my guess is that it has failed or has a leak. Has anyone experienced this and if so, how did you fix it? I've heard that removing the seats in the 996 (I have an 03 C4S) can trigger the airbag warning light which requires a visit to the dealer to clear, so if there's a way to fix this without doing that, I'd love to hear it. Thanks as always...

POST 2Original post

I don't (think I) have lumbar adjustments in my seats, but do have a couple of thoughts: I suspect any seat work is going to be a lot easier to do on the bench rather than in the car. You don't need a dealer to reset your airbag light. Depending on your willingness to spend money on tools, you can buy a device that plugs into your OBDII port and resets the airbag light (resets other lights, and is used for lots of other useful diagnostics). Durametric is one option, I went with the less expensive (and likely much less feature rich) Foxwell NT 510. I paid something around $150 and it paid for itself immediately.

POST 3Original post

To remove your seat(s) without setting off the airbag light. Move your seat(s) all of the way up, remove the two rear bolts, then move it back all of the way and slide the plastic end guard off the front of the track, use a small screwdriver to gently pry the lock up and slide them off. Remove the two front bolts. Take the key out of the ignition and put it in the house. Now tip the seat back and look closley at the connector. You can slide the connector out of the holder by squeezing the two lock levers together. The connector has a slide lock that holds it together. You have to pull it to one side while working the connector apart.

So if the key isn't in the ignition, the airbag warning won't get triggered? Thanks

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 14982666

I do have one of those tools, but like you I didn't buy the "do it all" tool since I don't do this kind of work frequently enough to justify the price. I didn't think (from what I've read online) that the cheaper tools could clear that code. Thanks

POST 6Original post

I have a set of comfort seats in the garage that I have been using for spare parts. The center of the seat back lifts and unhooks without removing the seat from the car. You can then check your lumbar bag and hose. You will need to remove the seat to replace the lumbar. Let me know what has failed if one of mine is good I wil sell it if you want it.

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 14982882

Correct, don’t put the key in until the connector is back together. you won’t set off the airbag unless you actually turn the key. Leave it somewhere where you have to walk to get it.

Cool! Are there any special tools needed to take the back off or just a little elbow grease and some upward pressure? I'll let you know if I need the parts! Thanks

POST 10Original post

Hi, just prchased a 996 C4 cab and the power drivers seat is stuck in the all forward position....I hear the button click when trying to move fore and aft but it does not move? Are there any posts on this??

POST 11Original post

I think most also wrap around the bottom of the back and fasten with Velcro. try this thread https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...k-removal.html Step 1: Remove, upper, center cushion. Pull up and out. There are three tabs that hold it in place.

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 14983278

First check the fuses. You might be hearing a relay with no power on the switched side? Try leaning into it to help it start moving. First check to make sure nothing is stuck under it jamming the track.

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 14983278

Definitely check the fuse, I believe its E2 (check the manual) because I was fooled by the "click" too, I figured if it were clicking there was power. I wasted all kinds of time trying different things and it was a 50 cent fuse and 30 sec to fix. I read a few different forums saying its jammed, shake the crap out of it, tap the motor with a mallet, remove the seat etc. Just a fuse....
