Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hoping that someone can confirm the piston bore size on my '02 non-turbo Carrera. Factory manual has the front caliper at 36mm and 40mm pistons, and the rear calipers at 28mm and 30mm. Previous owner painted the calipers while on the car (really???), and I intend to refinish the calipers and do a rebuild on the seals and boots while I'm at it. Also will install Speed Bleeders as I've done on all my cars. If you haven't used them, I can tell you that they are indispensable for bleeding brake systems. Thanks in advance for any input. Bob

POST 2Original post

What do the speed bleeders save you over using a motive? Also, any advice on caliper painting? I just tried it and did a really bad job.

POST 3Original post

And yes, my notes show you are correct on the piston sizes.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Speedbleeders make the bleeding operation a true one-person affair as they have a check valve internally that does not allow air back into the system. I am going to bead blast the calipers and take them down to the alloy. My plan is to use a high temp primer followed by Eastwood's 2K red epoxy paint, apply decals and then clear coat with 2K clear. www.eastwood.com

Speed bleeders are only needed if you are trying to do the one-man pedal pump method. If you are using an air pressure bleeder (Motive) or vacuum bleeder (both of which are one-man operations) they don't provide any additional assistance.

+1. I rebuilt mine this past winter and those were the sizes. I went with stainless pistons from RacingBrake.
