I used a combination of an electric palm sander and by hand.

I like them - not the easiest wheels to clean though.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've got my eyes on Sport Classic II's and Sport Design rims for my 99 in Arena Red.
My plan is to paint the center gold.
With this in mind, which way would you go?
Im leaning toward SC because they were an option when new.
Here's the car:
I pulled the trigger on the Sport Classic II's!
Gonna hold off on the gold, but I may look into spacers after I choose some summer tires.
Thanks for everyone's input! I'll post pics once they arrive and I get tires mounted.
They really are. I would have said that but both choices are good and it should be up to you. It surprises me that we don't see them more. I ran them on my 964 and they were great on that too.
The SC2's are in the mail and headed my way!
Any recommendations for wheel spacers for these 8 and 10 inch SC2's on a 99 NB? I've got PSS9's and plan on 225/40 fronts and 265/35 rear tires.
Thanks in advance!

The centers on my Sport Classic IIs were in pretty good shape so I didn’t refinish them. To strip the paint maybe some aircraft type stripper? For the re-paint I think
Wurth
brand is the go-to stuff.
For the barrels I started with a relatively coarse grit sandpaper and worked my way to 1500 grit (I think) wet sanding at the end. I used a combination of an electric palm sander and by hand.
Did pretty much the same thing with a set of Style 42 BMW wheels. Some of the wheels had pretty significant curb rash from the PO.
This a before and after of the same wheel.
Thanks
@SoCal911t
for the refinishing tips. My centers look perfect but a couple wheels have some curb rash. Good to know that taking them apart is a DIY project that gives great results. Did you put any kind of a coating on the barrels after you sanded and polished them? They look great.

socal911T - the wheels look great. how did you get the curb rash out without removing more metal? welding?
Tommy TUite - the best way imo to remove paint is to mediablast the wheels. then paint with a 2k one stage paint. I think an activated 2k paint is more durable than anything you can get in a can; add activated clear coat and it's even better
Prelude: Thanks for the wheel compliment! I found the SCII"s at such a good deal on bay area cl that I couldnt resist. Plus he was willing to ship. I've always had issue with popular wheels not being my thing. I sold my fuchs on my 73.5 to and went "back" to cookie cutters because the car was ordered with them. In this case, I could go either way, so the CSII's will be the summer tires and I'll keep the twists for all seasons and concours in 25 years.
the pb blaster is soaking in now, but as soon as my amazon order wtih triple square bits shows up friday, I'll let ya know!
No I didnt but Ive heard of people putting a clear anodizing on them. We have a pretty mild climate here and so far it hasnt been an issue.
The amount of metal removed seemed insignificant in the grand scheme of things plus my welding skills arent ready for prime time.
Between the two sets of wheels, I removed somewhere between 275-300 bolts and none broke. It might be a different story for wheels that lived in snow country.

Did you reuse the original bolts? Everything I have seen says the Ti bolts are single-use and BBS doesn't appear to sell them.
