One disturbing thing that I have read over and over again in the G35driver.com is that alot of them claim the G35 can out run a 996.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have been lurking in the forum for quite some time but have no reason to post much until now. As some of you may have read my earlier posts that I have been looking for a 911 to replace my Infiniti G35. One disturbing thing that I have read over and over again in the G35driver.com is that alot of them claim the G35 can out run a 996. I have been arguing till my face turns blue with them boy racers, but I get laughed off the site every time. I need one of you to tell me this is not the case. If it is, I may just as well keep the G35. Some specs on the G: Curb weight: 3400 lb give or take a few, 289 bph for AT, and 290 bph for MT. I am not here to flame the Porsche. I love them and I would rather have a P-car over anything car out there. Wish I have never bought the G at all. I actually am very disappointed with the car, especially the interior design and the seat belt. I bought it because my friends claim that it has the DNA of the Skyline V35, in which I totally disagree. And that it is the best sport coupe, which I also disagree. Yes, I made the mistake of buying it base on emotions. Now I regret that decision. The money I spent on that car should have gotten me a very nice 993 or late model 996.

POST 3Original post

A G35 is a fine sedan, but it's no sports car. The 996 has more horsepower and weighs less (over 400lbs. less!!!). Call me crazy but numbers don't lie......the 996 will walk away from a G35 at any speed. Throw in some corners and it will get really ugly! Don't believe me......just pick up any car mag and flip to the stats page (that will give you some unbiased numbers). The G35 may have the "DNA" of the Skyline in it......unfortuantly, it also has some fat genes from the FX35 (thanks to the wonderful world of platform sharing). Good luck!

POST 4Original post

sorry, but anyone with even one single brain cell left will know that a stock G35 will not even come close enough to smell the exhaust fumes of a stock 996 on straight line. if turns are involved, you will see the G35 flip over many times trying to keep up with a 996. i am not flaming G35. my sister has one. and i abuse it a lot. and no way can that keep up with 996. and as fine as G35 is, it shouldn't be used in the same sentence as a 996. this comparison is simply invalid and rather senseless. would anyone compare a watermellow with basketball and say that one is sweeter than the other? other than that they are both more or less round, i see nothing in common b/c b ball and watermellon, just as both cars got 4 wheels, nothing else in common. and i am not blindly praising porsches as i most likely will not buy another.

POST 5Original post

Hm, my Evo mag doesn't have the times for the G35 so had to google ... Motortrend 0-60 for 2003 Infiniti G35=6.0s Evo Mag 0-60 for 3.6L Porsche 996=5.1

POST 6Original post

oh, no no no. g35 has nothing in common with with the marvelous skyline GTR. i have driven GTR in taiwan an g35 in usa. fongster has two GTR's. he will sure comment on it.

POST 7Original post

who cares? Unless you are on a track, does it really matter? On the track, I would take a 996 over a G35 any day of the week. On the street, both are more than capable. Buy what makes YOU happy and ignore everyone else . . .

POST 8Original post

I think he is talking abt the G35 here, which is commonly mistaken for as a sibling to the Nissan GTR, there is nothing in common with the 2 cars I think a better comparison for the US market, is that the v35 series 350Z and G35 coupes are replacement for the 300ZXs of the 1990s. There isnt anything you can compare with the GTR here in the USA....I know myself, thats why I ended up with 2 GTRS...

POST 9Original post

G35 coupes tried to race me on several occasions as well as those pesky 350Z and I walked away from all of them... they are quick but no match for the 996... you won't blow them away but you will definitely walk them... handling...? well... to use a cliche "there is no substitue"

POST 10Original post

We have had G35 Sedan's and Coupe's as well as the 350Z (which is what the G35 coupe is based on) and they spend their entire day giving the point-by. Can't stay with the 911's in the straights and get totally lost in the curves. Nice car for the street (the Z and G35 coupe) as well as the track but nothing that comes close to what you experience in a P-Car.

POST 11Original post

Well there's only one way to find out... Anyway, my buddy just had a Turbo added to his G35c and it's rediculously fast but prior to that I was not impressed, though I almost bought one until I found I could get a used 911 for near the same price. I've never raced a G35c but recently I ran a convertible 350z. I passed him with ease, though I don't know if it was an auto or 6 spd.

POST 12Original post

I'll echo everyone's comments. No chance in a straight line. On the track, I could probably lap 3-4 or more seconds faster in my 996 vs. the Infiniti on say, a 2.5 mile length circuit. Sounds like those Infiniti boards have a case of P-envy.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not only P-envy, most of them came from racing riced out Maxima, Acura, Civics and what have you. That's about all they know. They love to pat their own backs when it comes to the G. I was involved in one argument that the G can out run a Mercedes SL, which is my other car. I argue with the perspective of a SL owner. Well, they told me I was full of you know what. And that my SL is Mercedes SLow. I definitely am regretting getting the G.

POST 15Original post

G or SL shoudn't out run blah blah. they should be used as commuters, grocery getters or dinner mobiles. they are much better than porsches for those uses. they aren't meant to be driven hard. they are cruisers. why is it ppl buy these cars and try to make them fast? i just don't get it. you don't see lance armstrong ride a tricycle at TdF do you....

POST 16Original post

There will always be somebody who's faster... but seriously, what would you rather have in your driveway? Modded up WRX STI pushing 60psi with ungodly amounts of power, or a 911?

POST 17Original post

I'm not quite sure why you even need to ask the question the g35 competes with top end 3 series BMW - not even an m3 having driven an R33 and R34 skyline GTR I can say with 100% certainty that there is no link between these cars and the made for the US G35 if you want a porsche go and buy one - its unlikely you will regret it. funny that accura and infiniti don't exist in europe and that the only country that lexus has been successful in is the USA. people in europe can see though a manufacturer putting a 'es300' badge on a camry and charging a few grand extra

POST 18Original post

Modded up WRX STI pushing 60psi with ungodly amounts of power, or a 911? ______________ heeheehee, i have yet to see a fast WRX STI not blowing up on a track day. drive it straight for 60 min. i bet it will blow up. i have seen plenty on track blowing up. drive, really drive a G35 and then a bimmer. my old fart e36m3 is way more fun than a new faster G35. having driven an R33 and R34 skyline GTR I can say with 100% certainty that there is no link between these cars and the made for the US G35 _______________ you got it. it's a big shame that GTR aren't available here in usa.

POST 19Original post

Those guys need to give their heads a serious shake, maybe until they wake up in the real world.MY SL beats up on those dressed up rices, and my Porsche wipes the floor with my benz in every way. Come on now!

POST 20Original post

The question is does a 996 beat a g35, well let me tell you I have owned both. The G35 is a great car no question, the brakes and the stock 18 or 19" wheels are nice and the power plant turns out 280 stock. Mine put 240 to the wheels. Unfortunately the g35 weighs 3435lbs. So while the motor is close it's no where near a 996 in hp/wt ratio. I have pulled easily on 350zs with 200 less pounds. Also, the handling is niice on the g35 but it's not even close to as tossable as the 996. It really helps having the weight planted on the rear as you come out of the apex. G35 has massive understeer and the traction control was worst part for me. There is simply no way it's close. M3 will smoke it as well.(A lightened M3 pulled on me at the track) They are great cars but can't compete without a power adder. Which is where they are a great value. Companies such as Vortech and Greddy can make an average g35 a monster for under 6k. But then traction becomes a major issue I personally think that Greddy and other companies such as Turbonetics are missing out on a whole group of people who will buy these kits with low levels of boost at a reasonable price. As far as looks are concerned I think it's a toss up. The G35 sport coupe with the brembos looks really nice. So does the 996 and beyond. The stigma of the "Porsche" gets a little annoying but its a great value. Even though 996s are depreciating new cars do even faster. I guess it comes down to performance per dollar and how much you're willing to modify your ride. Just my .02c

I'll sell you my yellow banana..45k usd + 25k frederlise thru that shop in LA want ?

POST 22Original post

stop dangling that banana. 45k usd, fine, but you pay for federalizing and get it to smog ;-)

POST 23Original post

this car passes Euro II standard when it comes to emissions..should pass local smog with flying colors...the dudes in LA smogged their cars too. 45+25 is a great deal, seeing how its 90k from motorex... imagine driving that to your local ranch 99, you would be God!

POST 24Original post

A little perspective. Even the little 3.2 l Boxster would walk away from the G35 and I am not even talking the Boxster S. Honestly the G35 would lose out to any and with a older model 911 964 or 933. I am only talking straight line becuase we all know any Porsche would kill the G35. With maybe the exception of a 944 non turbo.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
