Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is this oil cap normal? or should I worry about intermix (head crack)? 1999 996 C4 40k miles

No problem. I know the feeling!

POST 6Original post

PM me before you list it as a roller. Naw, check the coolant and then take it on a long drive. Check the dipstick. If it looks like that in the sump...well then you've really got a problem.

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 15635242

hahahaha... That is a funny image right there!

POST 8Original post

That's totally normal when ambient temps are lower than 40 degrees F or so, and/or you do a lot of short drives. Try driving the car for a good 40 min at full operating temp and then check the filler again. What you're seeing is just the water/water vapor in the crankcase that works its way up the filler tube.

POST 10Original post

I am in New England and my fill pipe is extra milky. But it happens every winter. Not losing coolant and dipstick is fine. Plus recent oil report show no water or coolant. Your pic looks perfectly normal unless you drive long trips in warm weather.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks a lot everyone. I should check the deepstick and coolant tank. I am glad that it is normal. I have also checked another used 2000 996 110k miles yesterday and it was just look same. BTW, I am looking for a used 996 or 997 now, so...this is not mine yet. I will try to ask dealer if I can test drive more than 40 min
