Mine is a 2003 Bose with MOST, but I have changed the head unit and amp to aftermarket, so done away with all the MOST crap.

I presently have an aftermarket head unit, with it's own separate mic, and would "ideally" like to replace the aftermarket mic with the stock one to the aftermarket head unit....if possible.

I just ran the new mic to that spot and left a slight air gap for the mic and stuck it in with butyl-tape (the sticky black adhesive).

Suggestion

The spot for the mic is left side of dash under that little oval mesh trim piece, but according to wiring diagram and me looking I didn't have a connector I could find, which I couldnt use anyways because I used a new aftermarket head unit with it's own mic and connector.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm back to the fountain of knowledge for help with wiring. Does anyone know where the connector that connects the handsfree microphone is located? Before someone says it, yes, I know its under the dash, but might someone narrow this down? I presently have an aftermarket head unit, with it's own separate mic, and would "ideally" like to replace the aftermarket mic with the stock one to the aftermarket head unit....if possible.

POST 2Original post

I have a '99 with hi-fi sound (extra door speakers) but not BOSE. The spot for the mic is left side of dash under that little oval mesh trim piece, but according to wiring diagram and me looking I didn't have a connector I could find, which I couldnt use anyways because I used a new aftermarket head unit with it's own mic and connector. I just ran the new mic to that spot and left a slight air gap for the mic and stuck it in with butyl-tape (the sticky black adhesive).

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Zac, That was my original plan, until I removed the trim piece to realize I actually have the OEM microphone installed. I would need another trim piece without the microphone as the OEM mic is permanently attached to the trim piece.

I dont know what year you have, or what sound system but you should be able to find the wiring diagram for it here. I found mine in one of these threads as an attachment. Its a bit of a weird setup with the hayes/nokia amp. It was easy enough to bypass (need a new amp though). I Did remove the battery to access the firewall grommet on drivers side of the battery. Thats the perfect spot to route wires if you need to. If you have the MOST or BOSE its going to be a different install for you.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mine is a 2003 Bose with MOST, but I have changed the head unit and amp to aftermarket, so done away with all the MOST crap. I actually have a wiring diagram, but can't physically find the plug up under the dash. I was hoping, maybe, someone had done this before or installed one of these OEM mics that might give me an idea of where to look for the plug, or if the output from a Kenwood head unit would even be compatible with the OEM mic for that matter.

POST 6Original post

From what I've read, the factory location for the mic is about the worst place you could put it as far as sound quality. I put mine in the A-pillar above the sun visor and it works great in my Cabriolet.

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 15636191

The A pillar is a better place an the stock location. I tried a few places but chose the stock location to hide it completely. The A pillar is good (I had it clipped there but the visor would knock it sometimes) and under the sun roof controls was decent. Stock location is the worst but still acceptable, in my opinion. Wherever you put it - insulate it from behind and leave a small air gap to the front so its not touching anything.

POST 8Original post

I ran mine to the cubby in the center console. It works great there and somewhat hidden

POST 9Original post

THe phone modules were under driver seat if you were in Europe, maybe there?

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the feedback. At the moment I have the mic mounted on the steering column, just below the instruments. It works, but could likely be better. I'm not sure I have enough wire on the mic to get all the way up the A pillar, but don't really remember how much I hid under the dash. wyovino, do you happen to have a picture of your's? Mine is a cab too. I just thought the stock location would likely be best, but apparently not.
