Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

See my post #8 Just noticed the other night that a little light above the mirror stays on (seen from the front) and my frunk and engine compartment switch lights stay on. If I lock it with the key remote all shuts off. Anyone have a clue? I searched and found nothing 996 related.

POST 2Original post

The DME controls the lights based upon feedback from the microswitches (door open/door closed), and also the immobilizer for the frunk, engine compartment lid and doors. I would attempt a system reset by disconnecting the negative battery lead for at least 30 minutes. That will reset the DME/Immobilizer to default values and reset everything. Just a guess....

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Will give it a shot, thanks!

POST 4Original post

mine does the same at times. never put any thought into it since it does turn off after a few minutes.

Same. That's pretty normal on most cars past the 90s, right? If it's not going off after a minute or so, then it's a problem.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No luck. Just to clarify, my dash and map lights go out after a couple of minutes, but the little LED above the mirror, the footwell LED's on the door pulls and the frunk and engine lid buttons stay on. Once I lock it with the key fob, all go off.

POST 7Original post

Leave the car unlocked ( I know it says locked but try this) with the frunk open for 62 minutes then come back and check to see if they are off.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Update. I just went through my manual and the lights that stay on when unlocked are "orientation lights" and are light-emitting diodes in the door handles and interior light above the rear view mirror. I'm curious if these could kill my battery if I left the car unlocked for any long period of time. I would assume no? Funny I never noticed this until the other night as I don't spend anytime in my car at night.
