I would probably go even more to the extreme and replace every 6 months until I do the RMS/clutch/(check on)IMS at the same time.

They also changed the oil and found no metal, so should be from the RMS, maybe it will dry up when I drive it more regularly?

Reman engine has ~35k miles, but the car was driven low mileage per year, so the owner had been replacing the oil every year instead of at xx mileage.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am looking at a 2003 C2 to potentially buy, it had the engine replaced under the original warranty with a factory reman. I have searched and searched, but could use some help identifying what the serial number indicates as far as date and more importantly which IMS bearing likely lies within (I understand the only way to truly know is open the engine up, but would like to have a good idea). The reman engine was put in the car in 2008 and the serial number is: M96/03AT66066817. Also of side note, during the PPI, it was noted there is a small leak from the RMS/IMS area, but the car is not driven a lot. They also changed the oil and found no metal, so should be from the RMS, maybe it will dry up when I drive it more regularly? Will address it when the clutch needs to be addressed if that is the case.

POST 2Original post

Mine has the big unserviceable bearing and was replaced in 05. You should get in there and pull the grease seal off the IMSB if you get it. How many miles on the motor and how often was the oil changed?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks! Reman engine has ~35k miles, but the car was driven low mileage per year, so the owner had been replacing the oil every year instead of at xx mileage. I would probably go even more to the extreme and replace every 6 months until I do the RMS/clutch/(check on)IMS at the same time.
